@marki2059 @HelenBranswell Yes, and if 95% of US pop of 330m is vaccinated or had measles (a very high estimate) and ~ 2% have vaccine failure, then well over 23 million susceptible (likely closer to 30m) and 0.1% of those = 23,000 deaths that are 100% preventable (plus 100,000 hospitalizations…).

President Trump, Elon Musk and others in the administration call USAID radical, wasteful, fraudulent. Here’s why they’re wrong:

2 years ago but the message remains the same. Congratulations to the PHPM residency classes of 2022! You have given your heart and soul to this specialty and it gives hope and joy to know you’ll be the leaders of tomorrow ❤️
UToronto - Public Health & Preventive Medicine@PHPMUToronto

“We know you are ready, we know you are willing to serve, and I know you will go above and beyond to put the health of your fellow citizens first, just like so many who have come before you.” Thank you @justintrudeau! And CONGRATS to all graduating PHPM residents across 🇨🇦!

@KashPrime @DFisman Public Health and Preventive Medicine is a Royal College specialty. He and other MOH’s are not doing an ‘admin job’, they are practicing PHPM. Prob wasnt your intention to insult, but thought I’d point that out.

@DFisman It’s the danger of leaving clinical work behind when you take an admin job. You don’t have a fall-back, and your meal ticket literally depends on you towing the line, no matter how objectionable.

Lest you think it's just twitter snark, there is a lot of behind the scenes discussion re: Ontario cmoh's transformation from an evidence-based public health practitioner with ace communications skills into a provincial MOH whose m.o. seems to be primarily political.

@RitikaGoelTO @UofTPGME Global Health Education Initiative will hold a special session tonight. Why a session on #UkraineRussiaWar and not others? (We have done others..) but I hope to address this - and very much speak to the bias and racism that @RitikaGoelTO notes here.

@KLHM2010 Please refrain from linking to this personal account that is not connected to York Region. Please address your concerns to the appropriate authority responsible for that area - vaccine eligibility and school guidance are a provincial domain, not local public health.

@celliottability @YorkRegionGovt @PakesGlobal Please open up boosters to all teens. And maybe get some HEPAs in all school spaces, esp where kids remove masks to eat, and more education on proper masking. See lots of images of people not masking properly.
YRDSB Mom@KLHM2010

@COVIDSciOntario Based on your left image p 14, teens who were boosted > 6 months ago may have little/no protection. Yet they are in schools with poor masking, no masks when eating, lack of HEPAs, no testing, no contact tracing, no isolating classes, no boosters.

@DrBarbKing I speak out regularly in many media outlets, Twitter is not an appropriate forum for any MOH this time.

Putting this out there. I am in Markham, ON. My daughter tested + on 12/26. I am immunocompromised, fully vaxxed and am experiencing symptoms. I have tried everywhere in York Region and Scarborough to book an appt for a PCR test with no luck. Any suggestions?

@LWaler @LoriAMacNeil @fordnation This is NOT the public health unit sitting on a positive case in school - this has to do with when the child was tested and when it was reported.

@LoriAMacNeil @fordnation I'm a mom with kids in a Toronto school. Agree that the public health units take their time to get these letters out. In our case- our principal tells the classes that need to isolate, immediately. Strange here that you received no direction from your school?

Ontario. You want to know why cases in schools are exploding right now? We just found out TODAY our 5yo was exposed in school and should isolate for 10 days. The problem? The exposure was 9 days ago. His isolation ends tomorrow. WTF are we doing @fordnation? #OntEd #UnsafeSchools

Lessons should be taken from Canada’s staggering death count in long-term care and among essential workers says Prof. @PakesGlobal but the problems highlighted by the COVID-19 pandemic were already known to public health. buff.ly/3EuwsSS @MelissaCoutoZ has the report.

@DFisman I’ve been doing a rudimentary weekly plot (dev from weekly avg) for a while…to decide if I should be worried. For a Monday, today’s numbers are a bit unusual.

Interesting. A very smart colleague pointed out to me that there’s substantial day of week variation in case counts in Ontario. Having a Monday case count that meets or exceeds the prior week’s high water mark is likely a warning that all is not well.

@DrKateTO @DFisman @fordnation @JustinTrudeau Unfortunately, rapid tests in Ontario are already widespread in some school communities are are causing more infections/problems than they are solving - by a long shot. I certainly understand parents frustration and thinking rapid tests will be helpful, but not so.
