𝑭𝑹𝑶𝑴 𝑻𝑯𝑬 𝑨𝑹𝑪𝑯𝑰𝑽𝑬𝑺 H.E. Ambassador Riaz Piracha (1924–2011) was a prominent Pakistani diplomat who served as the Ambassador of Pakistan to Belgium, Luxembourg and the EEC from October 1968 to October 1970. In his illustrious diplomatic career, H.E. Riaz Piracha held several high-ranking positions, including serving as Ambassador to Afghanistan and High Commissioner to India. His distinguished career culminated in his rise to the highest position in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs; he served as Pakistan's Foreign Secretary from 1980 to 1982. During his tenure, H.E. Ambassador Riaz Piracha focused on expanding Pakistan's economic footprint in Europe. In this regard, he signed the agreement for preferential *Trade in Handicraft Products:* H.E. Ambassador Riaz Piracha strengthened Pak-EEC Relations, ensuring that Pakistan remained deeply integrated with the emerging European economic structure during the EEC's formative years. DPM/FM underscored Pakistan’s consistent emphasis on dialogue and diplomacy as the only viable means to address challenges and achieve lasting regional peace and stability. He stressed the need for engagement between the United States and Iran, urged both sides to consider extending the ceasefire, and to give dialogue and diplomacy a chance. ISLAMABAD: 20 April 2026. Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif received a telephone call this evening from H.E. António Costa, President of the European Council. During their cordial conversation, the two leaders exchanged views on the current situation in the Middle East. The Prime Minister shared with President Costa the latest updates on Pakistan’s diplomatic outreach and peace efforts. President Costa expressed deep appreciation for Pakistan’s constructive role in promoting dialogue and stability in the region, and said that the EU was ready to support this process, in every possible manner. Both leaders stressed on the need to continue with dialogue and diplomacy to ensure lasting regional and global security. In this regard, the two leaders also agreed to remain in touch.

The 12th Round of Pak-NATO Military Staff talks was held at NATO Headquarters in Brussels Pakistan side was led by Chief of General Staff, Lieutenant General Syed Aamer Raza, while the NATO side by Director of the International Military Staff, Cooperative Security Division, Major General Eray Üngüder. 𝗙𝗿𝗼𝗺 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗔𝗿𝗰𝗵𝗶𝘃𝗲𝘀 Ambassador Abdur Rahman Khan (1962–1967) 🇵🇰🇧🇪 — a distinguished diplomat and one of the early architects of Pakistan’s outreach in Europe. Serving in Brussels at a formative time, he played a pioneering role in establishing Pakistan’s diplomatic presence and strengthening ties with Belgium and the wider European community. His tenure was marked by landmark agreements: * In 1962, he forged Pakistan’s first formal diplomatic links with the European Economic Community (EEC), laying the foundation of today’s Pakistan–EU partnership. * Benelux–Pakistan Seaman’s Book Agreement, facilitating maritime cooperation and mobility of Pakistani maritime workers within Benelux. As distinguished career diplomat, he had earlier also served as Pakistan's Ambassador to Afghanistan (1959-1962). Building on the shared vision to launch collaborative initiatives as agreed last year in a meeting between H.E. Ambassador Rahim Hayat Qureshi @rahimhayat and General Delegate of COLEAD, Mr. Jeremy Knops, the Embassy of Pakistan in Brussels, along with COLEAD, organized a webinar titled “EU Agri-Food Safety Regulations: Key Updates & Compliance Strategies for Pakistani Exporters.” The session was held under INTPA's @EU_Partnerships "Agrinfo Initiative" to disseminate information on EU's regulations and policies. Renowned experts from COLEAD, together with Trade and Investment Attache of the Embassy, provided participants with important information on current EU agri-food safety regulations, highlighting essential updates and offering strategies to ensure compliance for Pakistani exporters. Garnering a highly positive response, the session attracted over 100 participants. This strong turnout reflects the keen interest and commitment within Pakistan’s agri-export community to enhance their presence and competitiveness in the EU market. The Embassy is proud to bring this important initiative directly to Pakistani exporters, industry stakeholders, and government representatives. By improving awareness and capacity, the AGRINFO Programme supports Pakistani stakeholders in meeting international standards and accessing new opportunities.
