🚨NEW: Washington, D.C. veteran is fighting to reclaim her home from a squatter while trying to avoid foreclosure. Veronica Hegens rented out her two-unit rowhouse so she could move in with and care for her 84-year-old father. When one tenant’s lease ended, he was supposed to move out, but he died unexpectedly. His girlfriend, who was not on the lease and has not paid rent, refused to leave. Instead, she sued Hegens and even obtained a restraining order against her. To make matters worse, Hegens has been hit with fines after a pipe burst, repairs she cannot afford because she is not receiving any rental income. Thanks to D.C.’s “just cause” eviction laws, individuals who occupy a residence for a prolonged period can gain the right to stay. The landlord must take them to court and win to remove them. The eviction process can take months or even years, sometimes long enough for the landlord to lose the property to foreclosure.

On September 11th 2001, George W. Bush was scheduled to have a small group meeting with leaders of the Muslim community. Leaders later described as connected to Muslim Brotherhood linked networks. Now, I’m not suggesting anything sinister about that meeting, but what matters is that you had a group with ties to the Muslim Brotherhood that was supposed to have a meeting with the President on 9/11. That’s proximity, access, relationship. The key here is that while most were focused on the external threat, the internal threat was here all along.

One of the most important things I did to lose 50 pounds is change the way I view food. Food is medicine. Food is meant to nourish, strengthen, & heal our bodies. When I’m at the grocery store, I ask myself, “Will this food strengthen my body?” That mentality changed my life.
