America’s “Favor” That Powers Its Empire
U.S. troops in Germany are not there out of charity—and certainly not to “protect” Germans. They are there because without German soil, American global reach doesn’t function.
Ramstein is the largest U.S. air base outside America. Stuttgart hosts EUCOM and AFRICOM—the command centers for operations across Europe and Africa. Landstuhl has been the lifeline for wounded U.S. soldiers from Iraq to Afghanistan. Even drone operations in places like Somalia rely on infrastructure routed through Germany.
Remove that, and you don’t weaken Berlin—you blind Washington.
Yet somehow the narrative persists: America is doing Germany a favour. That Europe is the dependent, the beneficiary, the so-called “freeloader.”
It’s a convenient story. It’s also strategically backwards.
Because the reality is simple: those bases are not acts of generosity. They are instruments of power. And they exist in Germany not for Germany’s benefit—but for America’s ability to operate far beyond its own borders.
Take them away, and the question isn’t what Germany loses.
It’s how much the United States does.

Today is truly an important day. There were many productive meetings on the sidelines of the 8th European Political Community Summit. I am grateful to everyone who is ready to work for our shared security and strengthen capabilities to protect life. I thank Armenia and Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan for the organization. Many countries were represented – and that means a lot. It demonstrates the scale of our unity – of all those who value life. And today, this unity has real strength.

We recognize that Canada’s labour needs vary across regions. Our one-time In-Canada Workers Initiative helps meet labour needs in Canada’s smaller communities to support and grow local economies: bit.ly/4d1hC9n
This initiative will accelerate permanent residence for up to 33,000 workers in Canada by the end of 2027. These individuals are already living and working here, and contributing to Canada’s economy.
To date, 3,600 workers have been granted permanent residence under this initiative between January 1st and February 28, 2026. Our work continues.

The hard diplomatic work of trade with Europe was done long ago. We have free trade with them.
The barrier to selling to Europe is the Liberal government blocking our biggest export from getting out of Canada. They killed the Energy East oil pipeline to Saint John and blocked LNG export plants despite Europe begging for our energy.
I am challenging Mr. Carney to tell us when the first shipment of Canadian LNG will arrive in Europe.
Our biggest export cannot be speeches, handshakes, and photo ops.
