@timgill924 Calm down, you're an 'associate professor' for God's sake. It is a difficult call who is more of an embarrassment, you pubically acting like an ass before your children or the grad student not telling you to Fuck off.

I caught a grad student at the movie theatre last Sunday. I take my kids there to see Super Mario Galaxy and I see a grad student three rows up. I tapped him on the shoulder and told him he either leaves now no questions asked or I speak with his dissertation chair. He left.

@Fat_Electrician So what's the downstream? The ultra-wealthy sell their second homes to other wealthy people who make it their first home, the state loses the excess tax but gets a multi-millionaire living in state spending money every day.

Hey, we’ve got ultra-wealthy people paying property taxes on multimillion-dollar vacation homes, living here maybe 3 weeks a year, and dumping a ton of money into the local economy while barely using any government services. So overall, they put way more into the system than they take out. Let’s tax them extra so they stop. Brilliant.
CALL TO ACTIVISM@CalltoActivism

🚨HUGE! In a stunning win for his tax the rich plan, Mayor Zohran Mamdani just reached a deal with Governor Kathy Hochul tax second homes valued over $5 million owned by out-of-state residents. The taxes will generate $500 million annually for the state. This is amazing.

@AlTayWeiss Or it's high rent prices. I have a great deal where I am. I fix everything that isn't a broken appliance. If I was paying market in my area, I wouldn't lift a finger.

Biggest "the kids are fucked" moment I've had recently was buying a car Walked into the dealership, told them what I wanted and said I'd pay up-front. Expected them to be thrilled Instead they were horrified. Spent the next 20 minutes trying to get me to finance it at some absurd rate Got me curious so after I left I read about car sale profit models. Apparently most US dealerships make more financing now than from the cars themselves I was such a boomer I assumed they'd want CASH In reality they want your ETERNAL SLAVERY at 19% APR

@Joe19136967 @AV8Steps @WifiMoneyPlant Interesting, I hadn't heard them being so long for dealer comp packages but who knows. Just speculating but maybe that dealership got flagged for a lot of commision payouts and 90 day payoffs so citi extended their commision basis. Maybe they lied.

@Joe19136967 @AV8Steps @WifiMoneyPlant Oh I agree, the only difference is I had 0 pre-payment penalty and could've fucked over the dealership but wasn't worth souring the relationship. Finance managers have been snake oil salesmen

@Pellz93 @AV8Steps @WifiMoneyPlant Same exact here. Just 6 months, like I said. I think it's a sucky business model. They shouldn't be able to advertise a car for $20k and then when someone comes in with $20k tell them that that's only the finance price.

@GrowAllYourFood @ronrule You're using an exception to the general rule, an exception that only started in 2022 and is still in a minority of states. Confusing over-generalizations with "confusing the issue" is not a me problem

If you homeschool your kids, you should be exempt from the portion of your property taxes that goes to the local schools.

@GrowAllYourFood @ronrule 4 out of 50 states use a voucher program universally which go directly to the school, not to the parent. ESAs cover homeschooling supplies as is. In either scenario, blanket funding when public options are available is fiscally irresponsible governance

@Pellz93 @ronrule No they are not different from what I said- at least in some states it means the money that would go to the public school is given to the parent as a voucher to spend on a private school of their choosing, that's literally all it is.

@GrowAllYourFood @ronrule Vouchers are different in that they are based on specific criteria (low income, poor school districts, etc) but in relation to tax payer funding this would be the equivalent of giving private schools the same per child $ amount as public which is silly

@Pellz93 @ronrule Yes it's called vouchers that is fine too but the voucher should not exceed the total amount public schools are funded per kid.

@GrowAllYourFood @ronrule So should we pay private schools then too and subsidize that? Whether home or private, you're making the elective choice to not use the publicly available option. Should someone not pay public works if they don't drive, police if they never call, fire dept if never needed

@ronrule No- this is libertarian mush brained thinking. It is the duty of tax payers to fund the schools and the school children, whatever that number is should apply to home schooled children, equality before the law.

@Joe19136967 @AV8Steps @WifiMoneyPlant It all depends on the finance company the dealer partners with and certain state restrictions but my dealership got a payout after 90 days from loan origination so I worked a handshake deal with them that I'd wait 90 days before full buyout so we both got a deal

Kyle P.@Pellz93·
@AV8Steps @WifiMoneyPlant But there is a difference in profit between cash versus financing because the dealership does get their egg after 90 days in payment

@WifiMoneyPlant we dont make more financing, its easier and less paperwork. the dealer doesnt make any different profit wether you finance at 5% or 25%, people really still dont know basic financing?

Millennials watched their parents lose everything in 2008. Then got handed $100K in student debt. Then got called entitled for wanting a living wage. Then survived a pandemic in our prime years. Then got priced out of every neighborhood we grew up in. And y’all really wonder why we’re not okay? We’ve been in survival mode for 20 years straight and nobody even noticed.

🚨 do you understand what just came out of the CEO of america’s biggest hospital system.. the guy who runs NYC Health.. 70 clinics, 11 hospitals, 1.2M patients a year.. just told reporters that AI could replace “a great deal” of radiologists right now.. four years undergrad.. four years med school.. five years residency.. and a sixth-year fellowship because they told you radiology was the safest lane.. $300K in debt.. $480K salary at 35.. and the man who never touches a patient just said a model can do it. administrator headcount has tripled since 1975.. physician growth barely moved.. guess which group gets “augmented” by AI.. they’ll swap a $480K doctor for a $48K enterprise license.. your MRI will still cost $5,700.. and they’ll pocket the spread.. this.. this is about a system that always automates the talent and never the middlemen. america’s healthcare innovation is firing the people who find your cancer while the executives who said this into a microphone keep their $1.1M salaries.. welcome to AI-powered medicine.

The single most radicalizing moment of my life was watching Democrats from the balcony of the State of the Union refuse to stand for Iryna Zarutska's mother, seated 15 feet away from me. Now they're tearing down her murals. They never cared about immigrants, it was all a lie.
