I got this beautiful letter this afternoon from Emeritus Professor P.N Okeke. He will be 85 years old on October 30th. He is writing a new physics book as well. What a living legend and one of the greatest men in African history.

The Erasmus Mundus Nigeria Chapter @ErasmusM_Ng curated a comprehensive application handbook in 2020 containing essential information for prospective Erasmus Mundus scholarship applicants. The handbook was developed from the experiences, insights, and practical guidance shared by awardees of the programme. It covers key aspects of the application process and provides valuable tips to help applicants prepare stronger submissions. If you intend to apply for the scholarship, this handbook will serve as a very helpful guide, just as it did for me throughout my own application journey. drive.google.com/file/d/1NLcA-b…

@FrUgochukwu At 42 he entered the Seminary. This can't be heard of in Nigeria. No Diocese or Religious Congregation would even want to accept him in the first place. Everything about Nigeria seems to revolve around pain and frustration. The Church in Nigeria can do better...

Scott-Vincent Borba, the co-founder of the multi-billion dollar cosmetics brand e.l.f., will be ordained a Catholic priest on May 23, 2026, in the Diocese of Fresno, California. Before the age of 30, Borba had already spearheaded successful campaigns for some of the biggest names in the beauty industry, including Neutrogena, Sebastian, Joico, Murad, and Hard Candy. He co-founded e.l.f. Cosmetics on the principle that high-quality makeup should be accessible at drugstore prices, and went on to develop his own eponymous skin-balancing water brand. He was an esthetician to Hollywood celebrities, and once gave actress Mila Kunis a 7,000 dollar facial using microcrystals from diamonds and rubies for the 2011 Golden Globes. He authored multiple books and modeled in his youth. At age 40, Borba walked away from his multimillion-dollar career. He donated his entire fortune to charity and entered Saint Patrick's Seminary in Menlo Park, California at age 42. In a 2019 interview, he said: "God has blessed me with everything under the sun. He not only blessed me with money and awareness, and just every business I had, he allowed me to have success with it. Then I decided, what is wrong with me? I was vapid. I had a perverse life. I went to LA, I got sucked into the Hollywood lifestyle. It was almost to a point where I was trying to sell my soul. I was living for myself. I was idolizing myself. I was a poster boy for luxury." Borba credits the Blessed Virgin Mary for his conversion. His mother, a devout Catholic with a deep devotion to Our Lady of Fatima, first planted the seed when he was in third grade. He recalled: "At Mass, she asked me to look up at the altar, and if I wanted to be the man in the robes. Whoever the priest was, his robes at that moment were shimmering like glitter. And I knew God was placing on my heart to become a priest." He said the call came at age 10, but he "accepted late." He was ordained a transitional deacon by Bishop Joseph V. Brennan on June 21, 2025 at Saint Charles Borromeo Church in Visalia, California. Borba said: "I know that our Blessed Mother has brought me into this vocation because of her love for me and for her Son. I have never been happier. I have never been more full of joy. With everything the world can give me, I would give it back a million times over to be united to Jesus." What a beautiful story of vocation journey. May God bless him and his vocation🙏🏿

I remember my NYSC at “27” years. One of my camp mate once ran to me on Twitter one day, when I confirmed her suspicion that I’m the same boy in Asaya, she shouted- You’re this very social, yet so meek in Kabba-Bunu. Wetin dey my head that year pass camp abeg, I was unarguably amongst the oldest in my platoon, talking of over 5 years older than many of my mates, but I regretted that decision now sa, I should have enjoyed the three weeks nevertheless, I didn’t participate in any activities and was always in my room during parades.

Ayo@Ay0Anjorin

How to write your Erasmus Mundus Motivation Letter: To begin with, there is no general ways to write it as program requirement and prompts differs depending on what they are looking for. However, some programs still want to know your motivation without any prompts. 1. The opening paragraph should tell the selection committee the motivation behind your application to their program. Your motivation can come from different experiences such as the environment you grew up, prevailing diseases and the impact it had your country , hands-on lab experience, energy related problems, war/crime and insecurity, political & economic instability, etc. This can form your opening paragraph. 2. The second paragraph should talk about your academic qualification. What did you study in your undergraduate degree? What classes did you took that relates closely with your chosen program and your grade if you graduate with a good GPA. 3. The third paragraph should be about your research experience. Here you need to summarise what research you have carried out. Don’t repeat what you put down in your CV. Instead, talk about what you did, how you did them and the result you obtained using the STAR (situation, task, action and result) approach. You can mention the tools/techniques you used for example in STEM related program python, R, synthesis, NMR, IR, UV molecular biology, protein and gene expression, DFT, schlenk line techniques and other tools you used during your research. 4. The fourth paragraph should be about what the program is going to give you. The curriculum is designed such that you’ve got to study in at least two different European countries. These countries offers different experience. Talk about the exposure, multicultural experience you’ll gain including opportunity to do internship in the industry etc. 5. The final paragraph should be about your career goal , future plan and conclusion.

7 things you can do today that can realistically get you a PhD position before the end of 2026…Not vague advice… actual actions you can take in the next 24–48 hours. Let’s go. 1) Define your research focus (write it in 2 lines) Action: Open a doc and finish this sentence: “I’m interested in studying ___ using ___ methods, especially in the context of ___.” Example: “I’m interested in studying emotional memory using behavioral experiments and computational modeling, especially in mental health contexts.” If you can’t write this clearly… nothing else will stick. 2) Turn your CV into a “research CV” Action: Edit ONE project right now using this format: - Problem: What were you trying to solve? - Method: What did you use? - Outcome: What changed? Example: “Studied gene expression in breast cancer using RNA-seq analysis; identified 3 candidate pathways linked to immune response.” No long paragraphs. Make it scannable. 3) Build a list of 10 target labs (not universities) Action: Search on Google: “[your topic] lab university” Open profiles and shortlist 10 PIs. Example: Search: “emotional memory lab Europe” → Find labs working on memory + mental health. Put names + links in a sheet. 4) Read ONE paper properly (not just abstract) Action: Pick 1 lab → open 1 recent paper → answer: - What problem are they solving? - What method are they using? - What would you do next? Example: “They study fear memory using fMRI… next step could be combining with behavioral interventions.” This is how you prepare for both SOPs and interviews. 5) Set up a simple tracking system Action: Create a Google Sheet with 4 columns: - Lab / PI - Research area - Open positions link - Status (Not applied / Applied / Interview) This avoids chaos when you apply to multiple places. 6) Draft a base motivation letter (only once) Action: Write 3 short paragraphs: - Your background (what you’ve done) - Your research interest (your 2-line clarity) - Why research / PhD Example opening: “My research experiences have focused on understanding how cognitive processes influence mental health outcomes…” You will reuse this 70% every time, but make sure to personalise it according to the goals of the laboratory. 7) Write ONE high-quality email to a supervisor Action: Keep it under 6 lines: - Who you are - What you’ve done (1–2 lines) - Why their work specifically - One thoughtful question Example: “I read your recent paper on emotional memory modulation… I’m particularly interested in how behavioral interventions could be integrated…” Do these today… and you’ll feel the difference immediately. DM me “help” if you’re serious about making brutal changes in your applications and win a scholarship in 2026.

@chudy_jnr I remember during my Final Year as an undergrad. I stayed in the Hostel for the first time in my life and we were not allowed to cook. Each time I went to eat at the cafeteria, I always encountered some students ordering for combo like Afang-egusi with a touch of okra soup...😂

I understand people who come to restaurants and mix food. You order a portion of fried rice, a portion of jollof rice, and maybe spaghetti, fine, that one is manageable. It’s a little chaotic, but at least it still makes sense. But what I will never understand is people who order mixed soup. How do you confidently tell a waiter to mix egusi and ogbono for you? Like… how does that even cross your mind? What exactly are you expecting to happen in that bowl? Because at that point, it’s no longer a meal, it’s an experiment😂
