This is particularly relevant in light of the Nature papers on multi agent scientific discovery recently published. It is up to us as a society to determine how we proceed and to shape our futures @PCASOLab @pennsurgery
Valerio Capraro@ValerioCapraro

Our paper is the 5th most read paper in PNAS Nexus of the last year 🎉. The article makes a simple point: Generative AI will produce a socioeconomic earthquake. Not because all inequalities will increase. This would be too easy. Some inequalities will increase. Others will decrease. And the result is that the socioeconomic landscape will barely be recognizable. In the information domain, generative AI can democratize content creation and access, but also dramatically expand the production and spread of misinformation. In the workplace, it can boost productivity and create new jobs, but the benefits will likely be distributed very unevenly. In education, it can enable personalized learning, but also widen the digital divide. In healthcare, it can improve diagnostics and accessibility, but also deepen pre-existing inequalities. This is why we need to stop asking only whether AI is "good" or "bad". The real question is: For whom? In which domain? Under which institutional conditions? * Full paper in the first comment. Latest @PennPlasticSurg article in @prsjournal presents new evidence in implant-based breast reconstruction continues to support the evolution toward prepectoral placement with obvious benefits vs. tradeoffs compared to subpectoral reconstruction, as surgeons are willing to accept the higher complication profile for improved quality of life. Important insights for patient-centered breast reconstruction decisions. #PlasticSurgery #BreastReconstruction #Prepectoral #Subpectoral #BreastCancer journals.lww.com/plasreconsurg/…

A fond farewell to our Senior Practice Manager, Ianyea Robinson, as she leaves DOS (again!) to begin an exciting new chapter as Director of Operations at the Abramson Cancer Center, PCAM. Ianyea has been more than a leader — she’s been the driving force behind so much of the great DOS content shared across our award-winning social media channels. From celebrating Administrative Professionals Week to honoring our incredible nurses during Nurses Week, her dedication to recognizing and uplifting our teams never went unnoticed. Now the big question remains… who will follow in her footsteps as the one person consistently sending the award winning DOS social media team content we can proudly post? Thank you, Ianyea, for your leadership, energy, creativity, and partnership. Wishing you continued success in your new role — DOS won’t be the same without you!

Early tranexamic acid improved learning & memory outcomes post-TBI, but benefits were much stronger in males vs females in this model. Highlights the need for sex-specific approaches in neurotrauma care. #TBI #Neurotrauma #TXA #BrainInjury bit.ly/42PC3kJ

Funding cuts to violence intervention programs mean fewer outreach workers, fewer resources, and more lives at risk. As our very own @ElinoreJKaufman warns, pulling back now could reverse hard-won progress on gun violence. We can’t afford to stall what’s working. nytimes.com/2026/04/25/hea…
