My take on the ceasefire Iran blinked. Just yesterday the regime rejected a temporary ceasefire and refused to meet in Islamabad. Over night they took President Trump’s threats seriously. There is no way to bridge Iran’s 10 points with America’s 15. So the outcome of negotiations depends on whether Iran accepts the fundamental U.S. demands: removal of highly enriched uranium, no further enrichment, dismantlement of ballistic missile and drone capacity, an end to funding and directing the regional proxies, and full reopening of the Strait of Hormuz. We’ll see soon enough.

After trashing NATO allies this morning about their failure to open the Straits of Hormuz, now this afternoon the president is saying (again) he's ready to start "winding down" the war against Iran, bc its all but won. Now he argues that the Strait will have to be "guarded and policed" by other nations, bc the U.S. "does not." Thing is, that pesky price of oil is near $100/bbl and is likely to go *up* the longer the Straits stay under Iran's IRGC control, which will continue escalating the price of a gallon of American gas & diesel, and everything else in our country that depends on inexpensive petroleum prices. The president can say he's going to walk away from the mess in the Persian Gulf he created with this war of choice, but the consequences aren't going to vanish bc he doesn't like them, or bc he tries to wash his hands of the consequences. We'll all continue to pay, and that price will only rise higher without resolute diplomatic action by the White House. Let him try to solve the problem with ground action - which appears increasingly likely, given recent deployment orders given to the 82nd Airborne and two Marine MEUs - and it will compound, immeasurably, the price to all Americans. This problem is not going to go away by ignoring it...
