@hell_line0 I've been battling bowel cancer for the past 5 years. Multiple rounds of chemo, major surgery, radiotherapy, colostomy (temporary). Mrs See has been an uncomplaining rock throughout. I'm in constant awe at what she has done for me. Could I do the same? I hope so.

Sitting here in the same day surgery and a doctor explained to a guy that his wife (who was going in for a hysterectomy) ended up needing a colectomy because of multiple diverticulitis fistulas… The dude is having a total and complete meltdown because he “did not sign up” for a wife with a colostomy bag. He’s in like minute 10 of bitching about how badly this impacts him. Somebody better get this man soon because 90% of the women in this waiting room are about to give him hell Update: I went up to the desk and was like “are we hearing this guy? Are we concerned about her care after she goes home…?” and the lady said “way ahead of you and already being dealt with.” So, there’s that. But some poor woman is still going home without a uterus, ovaries, large intestine, but with a giant piece of shit.

@DrBenSpencer Putting off the fuel duty escalator would reduce the amount of money the exchequer has for helping out with heating oil bills. Petrol should be highly taxed in order to reduce our dependency on foreign oil prices and availability.

The Government runs a fiscal deficit. What she probably means to say is - ’We will borrow the money’. With increasing fuel prices so too does the tax revenue from fuel increase. She could lower taxes on fuel, taking some of the burden off families, without costing taxpayers a penny and having to borrow more to pay for subsidies. I hope that’s the plan.

@mjovanovictech Quartz is pretty good but I would have preferred it if they had used the more generic IHostedService instead of their own IJob.

How do you create background jobs in .NET? With Quartz, it's as simple as implementing an interface. You can inject any dependencies you need through DI. Background jobs are also scoped, so you can even inject a DbContext.

@TBrit90 Could really do with those minehunters right now. Are the "Saudi Sandowns" still operating?

@thomasbsauer A lot of people don't realise that a big part of MCM is the months/years spent in creating detailed sonar plots of the seabed so that new "features" are easier to spot.

@afneil And maybe one Sandown class minehunter still going (almost). A fleet of minehunters might come in handy at the moment. Are the Saudi minehunters still going?

Happy to be corrected by naval experts. But by my calculations the entire Royal Navy surface fleet of warships consists of: Two aircraft carriers Six Type 45 destroyers Seven aging Type 23s And of these 15 warships only three are currently active (soon to be four if HMS Dragon leaves port tomorrow. In any sensible estimation of deployable capability we don’t really have a Navy, do we?

Greg Jackson, founder of Octopus Energy (now valued at £9bn) knows a fair bit about energy. I am willing to bet he knows slightly more than @Ed_Miliband ever will and Greg says: “We should use what’s available from the North Sea. While the price is set globally, there’s no point shipping gas from the other side of the world when we have it here” Do you agree with him, Ed? Or do you know something that Greg doesn’t? cityam.com/greg-jackson-u…

@flowidealism This can be where fee paying schools have an advantage because they invest a lot more in physical education.

@flowidealism I've seen similar at a local primary school. When a kid was starting to get a bit edgy they would be taken outside by the teaching assistant to kick a football around for a bit.

The best approach I ever found for dealing with behavioral issues was at a Montessori school that had a garden out back. Certain boys would get wound up and out of hand. Instead of detention or discipline, I would say: go dig a hole in the garden. Just go dig for a while. After an hour of getting hot and sweaty and moving dirt around, they would come back inside calm and relaxed and ready to engage. The energy had somewhere to go. Instead, most schools force that physical energy into a desk and then punish kids when it comes out sideways. The approach creates the problem it claims to solve.

@SharePickers @Ed_Miliband Yes, we definitely need to transition for many reasons. I was making the point that the headline of the article did misrepresent his position. The article itself, I thought, was very good.

@PeterSee8 @Ed_Miliband I agree we should transition but what we are doing is not a transition. Btw Greg has liked my post, so I don't think it misrepresents him.

Just heard from a taxi driver how @JeremyVineOn5 cycled up to his cab at a traffic light and filmed him with his camera and then reported him to police. Taxi driver got a 6 points and a 500 pound fine. What a nasty thing to do -taxi wasn’t moving and as soon as it moved he would have stopped talking Vine should start reporting cyclists rushing through red lights if he wants to play tell tale

@DrBenSpencer No. The fuel duty escalation has been put off for long enough. We need to do more to ween drivers and indeed the whole country off this dependency on oil from the Middle East.

If oil and petrol prices rise as a result of conflict in Iran, so will the revenue HM Treasury receives. In response to the Chancellor's Spring Statement I asked for a clear commitment to review fuel taxation to keep revenue neutral - effectively delivering a cut in fuel taxation should prices rise. As a Conservative I believe all tax cuts should be funded, this policy would be fiscally neutral. It is beyond disappointing that the Chancellor appears to believe Government support in finding a local forecourt is appropriate support, and I hope we see further measures to support residents and businesses should fuel costs rise.

I was so hungry at work before lunch that I went full Gollum with a rollmop herring in the kitchen. No knife/fork. Just straight from the pot into my face. Sometimes even I disgust myself 😂
