Marx and Kalecki on inflation: Firms set prices as markups over costs. Cost shocks (energy, imports, supply chains) → markups → prices → wages. Wages adjust with a lag—they fall first; bargaining comes later. Capital sets; labor follows.

@rtsrichard @Danjsalt @Mr_Andrew_Fox I grew up in Middlesbrough in the 1970s and when I go back I certainly feel safer than I did in those days. It's very difficult to summarise but to be most urban environments in the UK feel safer than 40 years ago in general. Can't say about rural areas.

I believe it's a relative thing. Relative to how we used to feel. I started travelling up to the west coast of Scotland on business 20 years ago. They still had high trust then. The guts at Poolewe Shore Base used to leave it open, didn't lock the cars or their house doors. It changed around 2010. Folk had started driving up from Glasgow. Would park just outside a village and wander round trying doors and seeing what they could find. I'm on a new build of 220 homes. Our private FB group has a couple of cases a week caught on CCTV, of scroats wandering around at night trying car doors, garage doors and recently even front doors. We've had discussions about setting up our own nighttime patrols on rotationand I attended Parish Council last week to seek advice for us.
