Since there are so many copies of the mtDNA per cell, each cell carries its own analog recording: a weak signal gives a small bit of edited mtDNA and a strong signal gives a lot. Can be prepped and read out along with transcriptomes using a 10x workflow. (more below)

Check out MitoScribe, our new preprint led by @Linhan_W: biorxiv.org/content/10.1... It's an analog molecular recorder that uses neutral base edits to the mitochondrial genome to store info about historical signaling in a cell. Single cell resolution at scale (see next post)!
