@DGruwier @KC_GT_ Depends on how real you wanna get. I repair crts/pvms as a hobby haha. Simulating different input qualities would be cool. Some kind of effect of separation of the guns, dot/aperture grille masks. Geometry issues maybe. Ya know what I haven't seen anyone do yet. Is a

So, we all know about how pixel art designed for CRTs loses its luster on digital screens. There are plenty of impressive filters and shaders out there that recreate authentic pixel art, but do they capture the feeling of sitting so close to a vintage TV that you can hear the cathode rays bouncing around in your skull? As an exercise, I decided to recreate a CRT screen in Blender as simply as possible. Once it was put together, I started playing around with it trying to find potential practical uses. It turns out, when you point a weirdly-angled fake camera at a fake screen and render it in a ray-tracing engine with depth of field, you get really, really good looking pixel art. So, I set out to make a convincing and easy to work with digital screen material, and I ended up with a potentially really useful rendering tool for not just pixel artists, but any designer with an insatiable hunger for cassette futurism (hello!) It's also simple enough to work with that anyone with an instruction manual should be able to leverage its full potential regardless of Blender experience. If you're interested, stay tuned!

@RobinPoedev I think it has a generic look... Like if you showed me the ui or a short clip. I'd almost think it was a mobile game ad. Asian/Mmo. I am biased as I don't like most modern stuff. I havent seen much on it tho.

@AllbonesJones Awesome. I have sensitive eyes tho for dark. Could you add in full solid white screens every 30 seconds to refresh my eyes?

Increasing FoV is a cornerstone of modern user experience, so I added it. Since there's no one-size-fits-all solution for FoV, I made it change every few seconds so that as many people as possible will enjoy their preferred FoV at least some of the time.

Reduced visibility is a very important aspect of successful horror games, so I copied how Darkwood did it. If you aren't facing an enemy, you have no idea where they are or what they're doing. They're just invisible to you.

This is the PC Launch Trailer for “DEATH STRANDING 2 ON THE BEACH.” Once again, I did the structure, editing, sound design, and mix myself. It features a track by WOODKID. Hope you enjoy it. Releasing on March 19. 🙏🙇🏻🫶😍👍

I finally managed to spawn custom shit in SH3 (i'm spawning an entity + using a custom model). It's very very hacky, but it works! This is Leon from the original RE2.

@senb0n22a @GamewithDave It's funny I found 8 very generic jrpg. Where as 7 still blows my mind with the art and environment. Relevant themes. Only the puzzles don't hold up.

@GamewithDave That just reads to me as the dark ages (or you missed a ton of good more niche titles that came out around the same time.) The only good thing there imo is FF8, I would've played a FF8 remake if it was proper, too bad they went with overhyped 7.

After this whole debate about DLSS 5 I came to the conclusion that most of the people talking about it are completely unaware of what they don't know...they're on the peak of ignorance and don't even grasp how little they understand. They just heard generative AI and like Pavlov's dog they just start drooling thinking it's the same shit as unethical slop image generators...for the love of Christ...go and educate yourself before raging on the internet for no reason. DLLS 5 is not a prompt based generator...it's not creating stuff based on someone else's images and hallucinates results. It uses the information from the raster to build up a final render frame with the same information but with better lighting and shading... I'll even give you an example on how much of an impact better shading and lighting has. This is a character I've worked on not long ago. On the left you have a raster render, with some bad shaders. On the right you have a render with raytrace on, a much better shader for both hair and skin. They don't even look like the same person...do they? This is what DLSS5 is doing....getting a result like the one on the right(tbh a lot better) at a smaller cost than actually rendering it. Still the same geo, same textures, same light sources. Some of you will go and say the one on the left is better and it's the artist's vision. It's not...it's just the artist's limitation due to shading and lighting constrains. Every single artist out there would love to get the right result in real time.

There's no question that Valve earns their 30% cut; however, I think they'd make even more money in the long term if they took a smaller cut from indie devs. Here's why: Many super talented devs are struggling to create their games in their free time - on nights and weekends. An extra 20% could make a huge difference. If you turn a part-time indie into a full-time indie, the chances that they'll make significantly more money and finish their games faster is obviously much higher. So this is my message to @Steam: for your own benefit, consider giving smaller devs a bigger cut. More full-time indies means more money for you in the long run. Be in the business of making part-timers full-timers and it'll play out in everyone's favor.

@grigsbysworld @jogamedev I'm fine with that. Mass chargeback is a very rare thing and afaik I've only seen it when companies release garbage stuttering junk. and any game we've released follows average very tiny % of refunds.

Steam puts refund liability on the devs, including the tax implications. A mass chargeback after funds are withdrawn can be fatal for a small studio. The generous refund policy everyone celebrates makes that risk worse. Great platform for consumers. Different story on the other side of the counter.

@favoga_ It was peak. Just as peak as the konami jingle going and your carpet being lit up by the flash bang booting MGS. Oh man. Btw its kinda corny but if you have a VR look up EMU VR and try it out. Play FF7 with the lighting in the fake room cranked up haha.

I didn't even consider DS2 but put side by side you can immediately see that something is just off about Grace, it's not like early AI, it's a much more subtle uncanny valley issue. Something about her skin just looks plasticity, the light doesn't scatter on her skin correctly

Jensen Huang has responded to the comments calling DLSS 5 AI slop: "First of all, they're completely wrong. The reason for that is because, as I have explained very carefully, DLSS 5 fuses controllability of the geometry and textures and everything about the game with generative AI. It’s not post-processing, it’s not post-processing at the frame level, it’s generative control at the geometry level." He has also added: "This is very different than generative AI; it’s content-control generative AI. That’s why we call it neural rendering" What are your thoughts on this?
