"Khyber Khyber Ya Yahud" is pretty much the worst argument Palestinians can ever make. It's so bad for the Palestinian cause that I'm amazed that Israelis don't raise it more often.

"First, Do No Harm; Joe Kent's resignation was his right. The manner of it was a gift to U.S. adversaries. Those are not the same conversation." "Serious national security professionals understand that the moment of active conflict is not the moment for public dissent by officials with access to classified programs and ongoing operations. The risks are not theoretical. Mr. Kent himself warned in his interview with Carlson that the longer this conflict continues, the more likely the U.S. is to see attacks inspired from home by lone actors, not organized networks. Mr. Kent is right about that risk. Which makes his chosen course of action more difficult to justify, not less." Read the rest at the Poblete Dispatches --->

Don’t worry, it’s against “international law” for Iran to fire them at you. The same “international law” that says you can’t preempt the threat. So breathe easy Piers.
Piers Morgan@piersmorgan

So not only has Iran brazenly lied about its ballistic missile range capacity, but this means it can probably hit the UK with them - and we have zero, I repeat ZERO, defence against these missiles. Very worrying.

Over 100 people were injured tonight by Iranian strikes on Dimona and Arad, 11 seriously, including children. While Israel and the U.S. focus on military targets and degrading the regime’s capabilities, Iran deliberately targets civilians. Iran’s nuclear and ballistic missile programs serve one purpose: spreading destruction, terror, and fear. As the regime weakens, it escalates and shows its true nature. If unchecked, this threat will not stop at Israel. It can reach Europe and the United States. Imagine this with nuclear weapons. This is a global threat. Israel is not the whole story. It is the warning.

Put the antisemitism aside for a moment. The Mayor of New York City was asked about an expression of support for mass rapists and murderers by his wife. His response: “She is the love of my life, and I’m not denouncing it.” And we’re just supposed to move on from this?

@christopherrufo I don't really think Israel needs you to believe it is the fulfillment of biblical prophecy. I do think the USA needs Israel as a strong ally.

In 2015, Mrs. Mamdani praised Shadia Abu Ghazaleh, who participated in bombing an Israeli bus and other terrorist attacks. She died in 1968, when a bomb she was building, accidentally, exploded in her home. Duwaji posted a picture of Ghazaleh on Tumblr for International Women’s Day in 2015. Fatah named two schools in Gaza after this “resistance heroine.” Fatah stated that she is among those who “guide our path,” and honored her for being an “uncompromising and merciful young woman, who sacrificed herself for her great family”: Fatah’s posted “Shadia took part in a bombing operation of an Israeli bus, and also took part in and even led a number of military operations. However, fate desired that when our heroine was at her home preparing a bomb to detonate on the occupation in Tal Al-Rabia (Tel Aviv) Tel Aviv is “occupied.” Blowing up buses and killing civilian is an “honor.” This is who Mrs. Mamdani idolizes.

Yesterday, I raised serious concerns about this Administration’s hiring a bunch of extremists to senior roles in the intelligence community who have a history of spewing antisemitic rhetoric and views. Joe Kent is a white supremacist who used Israel as a scapegoat for the Iran and Iraq war. Dan Caldwell, who was recently hired, is an isolationist who was fired from the Pentagon for leaking sensitive information.

Briefly stated, the Gell-Mann Amnesia effect is as follows. You open the newspaper to an article on some subject you know well. In Murray's case, physics. In mine, show business. You read the article and see the journalist has absolutely no understanding of either the facts or the issues. Often, the article is so wrong it actually presents the story backward—reversing cause and effect. I call these the "wet streets cause rain" stories. Paper's full of them. In any case, you read with exasperation or amusement the multiple errors in a story, and then turn the page to national or international affairs, and read as if the rest of the newspaper was somehow more accurate about Palestine than the baloney you just read. You turn the page, and forget what you know. That is the Gell-Mann Amnesia effect. I'd point out it does not operate in other arenas of life. In ordinary life, if somebody consistently exaggerates or lies to you, you soon discount everything they say. In court, there is the legal doctrine of falsus in uno, falsus in omnibus, which means untruthful in one part, untruthful in all. But when it comes to the media, we believe against evidence that it is probably worth our time to read other parts of the paper. When, in fact, it almost certainly isn't. The only possible explanation for our behavior is amnesia. — Michael Crichton

@oughtabefired @jbarro No- Do you seriously maintain this speech of hers was only about the terminology? If that were true, she would be even more vapid than she was in this interview. I am actually giving her more credit than you are.

@PollakDan @jbarro So in other words, you have a different “choice” of the terminology you prefer? Do you understand what the word “choice” means? Or maybe the term “first lady” is somehow codified (spoiler alert: it’s not). Have a beer or something man, this stuff isn’t that serious!

@michaeldweiss This guy is a wimpy, peacetime marine. Of course they can be losses, including an accident with an M-1 Abrahms tank or significant casualties. That is what Marines plan for- successfully achieving the mission anyway. No warfare is 'simple.' If that is all your marine said, OK.

I asked a retired U.S. Marine familiar with amphibious operations about a MEU on Kharg Island. Granted, this person doesn't have "OSINT" in his Twitter bio, so what the hell would he know? But this is what he told me, contra Trump's claim this is a "simple military maneuver": "Amphibious landings are by nature high risk and a lot can go wrong even in the best conditions. The Marine Corps has lost equipment during exercises, for example when an Abrams tank was sunk during an exercise on the coast of Spain in the 2010s. "An amphibious landing on Kharg is within the capability of the United States to accomplish, but at what cost and to what end? Once the Marines fight their way ashore and take their objective, they will be on an island with limited cover, very close to hostile Iran. How long could the Marines hold this island, under bombardment, before they would need to be withdrawn? "As for the danger, I think of amphibious assault as being akin to airborne assault. A lot of this depends on the tactical advantage of speed and surprise. "What the Marines are working against here is that everyone knows they're coming. And there are only so many places that are suitable for a landing. Need a suitable approach, favorable tides, etc. the Iranians understand this and will plan for it. "It is reasonable to expect that they will try to attack the transports en route, that they will attack while the ships unload, that they will attack the landing craft while they move from the ships to the beach, and that the troops will be attacked as they assault from the beach to their objectives. "Once the Marines are at their objective, they'll be attacked there too because Iran, and any other interested party to the conflict, will know exactly where the Marines are. "We're also 13 years removed from major combat operations in GWOT. There are still combat veterans at middle and upper echelons, but the majority of troops are not combat veterans. They're new guys."
