First Nations opposed the Act because it would have imposed clean drinking water standards deemed too high by First Nation leadership, due to a lack of Federal supports. First Nations communities have been getting huge sums of cash from the government, for often very small populated communities. This is on top of numerous indigenous partnership contracts. Yet thanks to the Liberal government, in power since 2015, there is no requirement for FN leaders to account for how the money is spent. Nice eh?

Maybe the uncomfortable answer is this: Stop trapping people where there is no work, no opportunity, and no future. Most Canadians have to move to where the jobs are. They leave small towns. They leave family. They leave comfort. They go build a life. But Ottawa keeps defending a broken reserve dependency model, pouring more money into failure, calling it reconciliation, then acting shocked when the results are addiction, despair, overdoses, and death. Carney’s Indigenous Services Minister Mandy Gull-Masty says Indigenous communities are disproportionately represented in overdoses, substance abuse, mental health crises, and suicide. Then blames “inequities.” Maybe the system is the inequity. Maybe the money train is not compassion. Maybe treating people like permanent victims is part of the problem. People need treatment. Law and order. Work. Purpose. Responsibility. Not another Liberal speech blaming colonialism while the crisis gets worse.
