Who the hell says the BJP is not a Bengali party? It is the most Bengali political organisation India has ever had. Founder: Syama Prasad Mookerjee (Bengali) Ideology: Hindutva borne of Shakta Hinduism in Bengal in the late 1900s Slogans: By Bengalis — Bharat Mata ki Jai: Kiran Chandra Bandyopadhyay Vandemataram: Bankim Chandra Chattopadhyay Jai Hind: Subhas Chandra Bose In contrast, those who founded the CPI(M), inspired by Karl Marx, Vladimir Lenin, Joseph Stalin, Mao Tsetung, et al, were from southern India. The Trinamool Congress, devoid of ideology, lifted one slogan from Mujib ur Rahman, another from Shaukat Osman, and the third from Begum Khaleda Zia — all Bangladeshis.

Openly-expressed threat by Bhaipo (nephew) of Mamata Banerjee, to start beating up all the 'traitors' to the TMC cause -- after midnight on 4 May (counting day). He specifically mentions how his goons had avenged the defeats in specific constituencies (by killing non-TMC, mainly BJP, workers) 'last time' (2021). This time, he promises to take responsibility for unleashing the goon killing squads. Can such open threats of post-election violence be countenanced in any democracy? @ECISVEEP youtube.com/shorts/vjxV3PI…

I wonder if the Brits celebrate the Battle of Hastings in 1066? That Norman-French invasion of England led to French become the lingua franca of England for 400 years. And the British aristocracy is still largely of Norman descent. Curzon, the dastardly Viceroy who thought of dividing Bengal in 1905 to entrench the conquest of India, was himself of Norman descent. King Charles III is the 25x great-grandson of William the Norman Conqueror through his grandmother Elizabeth Bowes-Lyon, a direct descendant of Henry I (son of William the Norman).
Sanjeev Sanyal@sanjeevsanyal

The Economist magazine is disappointed that India did not celebrate the 500th anniversary of the Mughal conquest of India. Oh, those ungrateful natives who do not celebrate the gift of civilisation. Who knows, they may even refuse to celebrate the Battle of Plassey. Dangerous trend.....

This Narendra is the true politico-spiritual heir of that Narendra (Datta), and he reminds himself and us of that connection regularly. It is time to restore Bengal to the path and vision of Swamiji. Joy Sri Ramakrishna! Joy Swamiji! facebook.com/share/r/17CBJi…

Mamata Banerjee behaved like this a decade and a half ago when asked simple questions by common citizens. How is she still in power despite economically ruining the state? Time for poriborton and a new vision for Bengal! facebook.com/share/v/1HYrDL…

I had to make 4 more calls today to change my booking, after we held a memorial meeting (স্মরণসভা) for my parents (my father having passed away 11 days ago). The first 3 @airindia customer service agents (including a 'supervisor' named Piyush) quoted me the full price of a new one-way ticket (ignoring the fact that I already held an existing ticket, on which a mere change of date was required, with me responsible for the price difference). Those 3 (on whom I wasted 63 minutes on the phone) basically didn't know the meaning of the word 'difference'. But finally a customer service agent called Shahbaz came on the line, and although he took 32 minutes as well, he knew his job -- and asked me to pay the price difference (rather than the price of a fully new ticket). So, after a total of 9 hours with Air India cust svc staff over 7 days, I finally have a satisfactory resolution.

Travails of dealing with @airindia My father passed away last week, so I needed to change my flight. Went to the website to request a change waiver, and uploaded the necessary documents. After a total of 6 hours of fruitless follow-up calls over 7 days, and more document uploads on day 3, the waiver approval arrived by email on Saturday. But when I called customer service to make the change, Md Samir and Abhishek failed to give me the requisite info. The first said he would call back in 5 minutes. When he didn't call back after 26 minutes, I called the next one -- who started the rigmarole of asking the same questions again (10 minutes at 2am). I'm sure the change waiver will be useless now -- as the price difference (which was minimal 8 days ago when I started this process) will now be much greater than the 'change waiver'. So Tata Air India still will want to charge me MUCH MORE despite making late sympathetic noises about my bereavement. Scamsters!

Thank you for your 'solidarity' and prayers. I must say they were not expressed by any of your customer service agents until quite late in the process. When my father had to be hospitalised on 10 February, I first called customer service and asked to postpone my CCU-DEL flight that night. I was told that the change fee would be waived if I uploaded evidence of his hospitalisation. I did so. But four weeks later I found the website showed that that case had been closed since I had allegedly been able to take a flight of 'my choice' several days later. That is NOT a resolution; it is a clever excuse for doing nothing @airindia ! It was this experience that led me not to make a reservation for 16 March on 8th March (when I knew it wouldn't be possible to fly back on 9 March). I told the customer service agents and supervisors that I spoke to for 135 minutes that night that waiting 2-4 days for them to process my request for a change waiver would eventually be futile if the fair difference (which was minimal at the time) went up sharply while @airindia was making up its mind about my request. The supervisor promised it would be resolved in 24-48 hours, but it actually took more than 120 hours for you to process my request. I am now being made to pay MORE for the flight than I would have paid if I paid the change fee and fare difference at the start. So your 'death waiver' (as Md Samir referred to it) is no waiver at all; it actually amounts to a death penalty.
