In 1998, the United States achieved its first federal budget surplus in 29 years, effectively ending a streak of deficits that had lasted since 1969.
This milestone was achieved under President Bill Clinton, following the passage of the Balanced Budget Act of 1997, which resulted in a fiscal surplus of approximately $69 billion for that year.

The timing of the fund was driven by the timing of the withdrawal of Trump’s lawsuit against the IRS - which was done just before a federal judge’s deadline for the U.S. to explain how the suit could proceed with Trump on both sides.

Public service reminder: Real wages got hosed despite what people called a "hot labor market". If you're interested in *compression* of wages..., sure, go ahead: Less hosed less for high wage workers. But also expect gains for high vs low for a few years now to even it out.

After an obscure defense vendor won a $12 million no-bid contract w/ ICE, I noticed something odd on its website: The firm was using a (still watermarked!) stock photo for the chief of its “development team.”
