@mazingjohn @LundukeJournal We can have packages for these edge cases within the distros. One need not change their entire distro just to get a pre-built binary that is authorized by the distro maintainers.

@PrtkMullick @LundukeJournal Sure. I encounter some of those edge cases too. The nice thing about Linux is that we will bave edge case disteis that eschew systemd and utilize something like Xlibre. I’m fine with that. I don’t need to the “mainstream” distros. Let the market decide basically.

Is Flatpak, the Linux packaging system, getting ready to drop X11 support and implement hard requirements of Wayland and systemd? It looks that way. Flatpak 2, aka Flatpak-next, “removes all prior legacy tech, X11, init systems no one is using.” This according to Jorge Castro, Head of Ecosystems at the Cloud Native Computing Foundation (part of The Linux Foundation), who presented on the topic at the Linux Application Summit this last week. When asked for clarification on if this means the “Flatpak 2” will require systemd, the Linux Foundation representative stated, “Are you serious? Of course.”

@mazingjohn @LundukeJournal There are edge cases for X11 usage, given that Wayland / XWayland still isn't mature enough. And this is coming from a GNOME user.

@LundukeJournal I get that a lot of us have big nostalgia for Xorg et al. I, too, miss the days where init scripts and many other things were easily understandable and didn't require arcane invocations, but.... *are* that many people really using the old stuff really??

@SamikBJP Please take a look at the following post: facebook.com/share/p/1Fcdbg… The author has not only claimed that you're lying, but is using half-truths and fallacies hidden within academic research to disprove the tedious work unearthing the origin of our civilization.

@ActorRudranil @SamikBJP Please understand the pulse of the people. The BJP supporters of Bengal do not want to be associated with people who celebrated their harm in 2021. Even if a platform is given, false narratives to justify wrongdoings should not be accepted.

@SamikBJP Humane treatment is for humans, not demons. Pandavas fought for righteousness, and the people of West Bengal are looking up to you as the deliverer of justice.

After this historic victory by @BJP4Bengal re-instating the trust of the populace on democratic ideals, we urge the next government to lend an ear to our problems, and assist common folk in solving systemic issues that plague the birthplace of Hindutva. #jaishreeram #jaimaakali

@techbharat You mean a constant battle against the hydra known as Windows Updates? Linux has its faults, but at least the users are not force-fed AI crap in the name of convenience.

When C-level execs who have zero clue about technology, or the needs of their users; can't think beyond their stupid bubble, but make multi-billion dollar investments based on FOMO, you get shit like the shoehorning of AI into freakin' Notepad!

@HPCL It has been over a month since we've booked an LPG cylinder using the HP Pay app, which was duly removed by the distributor, NATHANY ENTERPRISES in Kolkata. Requesting @HardeepSPuri to look into the matter. An email has also been sent to Mr. Jivan Prakash, Nodal Officer.

A final glimpse at Start Tiles. It was a cool way to display information, but as usual, @Microsoft dropped the ball, hard, multiple times with this one.

Microsoft admits it released an update that accidentally broke the Windows 10 to Windows 11 upgrade path using the Media Creation Tool. This prevents users from clean installing Windows 11 or creating a bootable USB drive, but there are workarounds. Microsoft statement: The Windows 11 media creation tool version 26100.6584, released September 29, 2025, might not work as expected when used on Windows 10 devices. The media creation tool might close unexpectedly, displaying no error message. We are working on a resolution for this issue, and it will be released in a future update to the Windows 11 media creation tool. Microsoft found out the Windows 10 to 11 upgrade path using the Media Creation Tool is broken approximately 48 hours before Windows 10's end of life (EOL).
