Amazing @hackaday europe, in Lecco. @tinytapeout team meet (nothing like inperson), time with @mithro, old friends and new, even met some really cool guy with a swiss accent. Thanks to all who came for making it so awesome!

Made it to Lecco, Italy, with the @tinytapeout team for @hackaday Europe, starting tomorrow. If you're here, say hi (and come to the workshop!)

For now, a die shot by Leo Moser. KianV Linux ASIC SoC

logic destroyer@splinedrive

First silicon just arrived. These dies are from the first wafer of my GF180MCU based Linux SoC KianV, built with a fully open source ASIC flow. This chip was part of the wafer.space GF180MCU run and hardware validation comes next. Big thanks to Leo Moser for help with the ASIC flow and to @mithro and @evezor for their guidance along the way. The picture shows the first dies. More bring up updates soon.

Deep (deep!) dive into NR+, a new protocol, tech and band available for IoT. I really like the RF that makes it go, and think this gives a good look at what's under the hood, on top of some actual real world use and characterization of this open standard youtube.com/watch?v=OPA3La…

A new band & technology: license-free IoT just leveled up! Spectrum reserved for baby monitors and cordless phones is now ours to play with--I took a look at NR+ and it sits nicely between LoRa and WiFi, to give you speed, range and low latency. @thegertel @matthewvenn I'm guessing the heat might be easy bring in but tough to dissipate ... more data coming soon :) Nice illustration of the dark side, btw !

@PsychogenicTech @matthewvenn Yes it's strange. You'd also expect it to be more generally symmetrical (for example, how come day time seems to be much longer than night time?). I'm not sure what kind of geometry this thing has, but in theory you can explain away almost all artifact as transient shadows

Graph shows frequency over time - why do you think it has a ~3 minute oscillation? What if I tell you the signal comes from a skull shaped ring oscillator? This open source silicon is currently sending data from low earth orbit!

Blast, I'm responding to the wrong post. See the repost of my graph, above (the RP2 temp sense data) where spikes at the top of the data, when it gets hottest -- that must be direct sunlight. But then it dips night when it's in theory exposed to light and shoots back up to the max, before starting to dip back down as the planet shields it from the sun.

@matthewvenn Nice! I want to get data for a full rotation or two, along side the RP2 temp sensor data--I'm really curious about the little noise in temp data we seem to get on every upswing and if the oscillator's sensitive enough to see that too.

We're thinking the sat is spinning slowly (HUNITY's gyro data seems to say so) and that this is actually being captured in the temp, in those two big peaks (and somehow maybe that blip at the beginning of the upswing, but I'm having trouble with it... reflection, heat from Earth, ??)

If I'm parsing the results right (the sensor experiment was by Mike Bell), these temperatures aren't all that bad--about -40 to +50C--considering the module is out there in naked on an arm extended out in vacuum.

Data... from SPACE! Received our very first chunks of results from my spasics module we sent up to LEO with a @tinytapeout ASIC aboard the HUNITY pocketqube. This is temp sensor data from the RP2040 used to command and control the experiments. All data sent/rcvd at github.com/psychogenic/sp…

@splinedrive We've been kind of settled on the RP2 since we started needing an MCU to control the ASIC project MUX--hard to beat the price/performance--and with the RP2350B we've got a ton of I/O and the upsides of the PIO. What would be the main selling points you see for the ESP32, here?

Starting off the new year nice and easy: first pass at the info leaflet for the new version of the Tiny Tapeout demoboards.
