On the Strait of Hormuz conundrum, the 1987 tanker war is illustrative. The US had 28 ships in the region, France 15 inc an aircraft carrier, the UK 9 plus random Italian, Dutch and Belgium escorts.
Despite these large numbers, escorting ships was ineffective. Attacks went up in the SOH after the operation started.

A Syrian Army source tells Qussai Jukhadar: if negotiations with the SDF fail, the next steps will be taking control of the border crossing to KRG, cutting off Kurdish cities from one another, calling on civilians to exit, negotiating surrender with each town separately (not SDF leadership).
This path does not entail storming Kurdish areas, but would still cause suffering & hardship. There is still time to reach a deal to avoid further bloodshed.
