Dr. G.P. Talwar turns 🎂100🎂 this year — founder of the National Institute of Immunology, India. Still shows up to work daily at the Talwar Foundation. Sharp mind, strong memory, fully independent. His secret? Circadian Discipline. A lifelong commitment to circadian rhythm—fixed sleep, wake, and meal times. A powerful reminder: Circadian habit may be the foundational longevity hack.

As told today to a trainee: any big jump feels scary, sometimes you feel you’re not ready enough. I recall @ANNELAMOTT’s quote from Bird by Bird - you don’t have to see where you’re going, just the 2-3 feet ahead. You can make the whole trip that way. Best advice from a 📕 for me

Papers submitted on Tuesdays are more likely to be accepted by Nature whereas Wednesdays seem the most likely day to submit and secure acceptance to PLOS ONE. For Cell, Mondays and Tuesdays seem the best submission days in case of accepted papers. link.springer.com/article/10.100…

I love finding a paper published years ago (5, 10, 15, 20) that isn't famous or field changing or has a ton of citations but when you read it is just awesome. Like, beautifully designed & executed & written. Best part there are so many papers like that lurking in the literature.

Every year I read a lot of grad school applications from accomplished people that don't give me the info I'm looking for. It feels like a major hidden curriculum thing. So here's (my opinion on) how to write a great Statement of Purpose/Research for a PhD program. 🧵 1/

Don’t forget the umlaut! Did you know the wildtype strain ‘Tu’ came from a pet shop in the German town of Reutlingen, a nearby city of Tübingen? This area was one of the sites of “The Big Screen” co-led by Christiane Nüsslein-Volhard in the 90s. #ZebrafishFunFacts @maxplanckpress

The Nobel Prize

“The dog is a bit confused about what’s going on.” New medicine laureate Mary Brunkow was caught off guard this morning when she discovered she had been awarded the 2025 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine. When we talked to her after she heard the news her surprise was palpable – she explained the “molecular slog” involved in her work and how research “takes a bunch of different brains working together.”

Excited to share my first @preLights highlight! Study shows how two human GRIK2 variants (A657T, T660K) tweak kainate receptor function, leading to major behavioral effects in mice. Fascinating link between ion channels biology & behavior. Do Read !!! prelights.biologists.com/highlights/wid…

The difference between doing a project and presenting it. An observation can lead to many avenues of explorations before focus turns to a specific discovery. Presenting it, in a talk / paper, follows inversely, with broad perspectives coming before & after the specific discovery.

The goal of a PhD is not to learn some facts or read a few papers or learn a bunch of techniques. The goal of a PhD is to learn independence, problem solving, how to finish things you start, resilience, & gain the ability to adapt & think creatively. Learning these things is hard

"The cure to boredom is curiosity. There is no cure for curiosity." - Dorothy Parker Curiosity is created by the brain and it drive us to seek information for the brain to process! How cool is that? 😎🧠 Curiosity is also critical for development and learning

From @SahilBloom’s book -5 types of wealth. Life in Science is dotted with disappointments and dead ends BUT the ones who keep showing up relentlessly, will eventually reap the harvest because it does all line up and make sense eventually! And trust me that high is so worth it 😀
