Factory farming is absolutely a moral atrocity. Very obviously so. How could it be morally justifiable to cause such suffering and misery to intelligent animals like pigs in order to save a few dollars? It can’t. It is immediately and intuitively obvious to almost everyone, after seeing a factory-farmed pig and a happy free-range pig, that one situation is wrong and the other is right. I believe that the best solution to this ongoing disaster is humane, high-welfare animal farming. Most people are not going to turn vegan, and most people are not going to live off fake meat goo. One problem is that we are caught in a suboptimal equilibrium: In many settings, it is hard or even impossible for customers to get high-welfare food, for example if none of the restaurants offer it. This makes it harder for high-welfare consumption to become a normal lifestyle for ordinary people, and harder for it to spread culturally. This, in turn, means that demand is not increasing over time, so there is little incentive for restaurants to focus on high-welfare food. I do believe this can and will change. The status quo is simply too grotesque. But we need a push to break out of the current equilibrium. There needs to be an established situation in which people can get high-welfare meat in normal settings, enabling the social signals around it to permeate through the population, without it being associated only with what is seen as weirdo vegans. Some billionaire ought to fund such a project in a city, with a campaign against animal factory farming, and highlighting restaurants that do sell high welfare meat. This could potentially have enormous impact if it works.

@kineyDE @jonatanpallesen That's a very far fetched philosophical assumption. I personally wouldn't want to be slaughtered for meat by human eating aliens even if I could have a few happy years. I would prefer not to be born because in that case I wouldn't - and couldn't- care about my life and death.

I actually think the agressive vegan bubble made things worse. If you give them an inch and accept the core argument about animal welfare they will not settle a single debate with anything else than complete veganism. This creates a polarized environment of vegans and performative "I don't care about animals" people. Here where I live there's a local association that uses water ox and angus cattle primarily for landscape conservation, but they sell the meat - I always buy some when it's available. If it was possible to ask those animals if they would prefer of never being born even knowing their ultimate fate I am certain they prefer having some happy years in the landscape.

Die #Ungarn werden nun mit den „Freuden“ der massenhaften Versorgungseinwanderung beglückt und müssen sich nun darauf einstellen, dass die Regeln des Zusammenlebens auf den Straßen, Parks usw. täglich neu ausgehandelt werden. Ob das bisschen EU- Anfütterungsgeld das Wert war? 🙁

Rechtsnachfolge bedeutet, dass ein Dritter in die Rechte und Pflichten eines anderen eintritt. Rechtsidentität bedeutet, dass es der gleiche Rechtsträger ist (= dieselbe Person). Die Linke ist daher nicht die Nachfolgepartei der SED. Sie ist die SED. Ein großer Unterschied!

@ben_brechtken Alles wird erklärlich wenn man berücksichtigt, dass diese Menschen die kulturelle und demografische Transformation wollen. "Nie wieder Deutschland" ist nicht lediglich ein Slogan. Es ist links-grüne Überzeugung.

Die Behauptung, dass Deutschlands luxuriöser Sozialstaat keine Rolle bei der Länderauswahl von Migranten spiele, ist mit Blick auf den Wahrheitsgehalt das soziologische Äquivalent zur Theorie der flachen Erde.
