Wajahat’s hot take? Not contrition. He has crafted a narrative that his parents and he, as their beleaguered son, were the victims of a white supremacist conspiracy against brown people. Yes, Wajahat Ali admits, he bravely chose to write their story and refuse to be “invisible” brown people. Let me further explain. Virginia has a procedure set forth in its statutes for this kind of effort. The advocates for the proposition violated the procedure. The court allowed the vote because if the "No" side prevailed, the issue would be moot. The defect in the procedure was there all along, and didn't go away because of the outcome of the vote.
