📍Lebanon | Under fire, lives change in seconds. Families are torn apart, survivors are pulled from the rubble, carrying losses too heavy for words. For many, the impact lingers long after the violence ends. Civilians must be protected from the effects of hostilities.

The workshop focused on strengthening the role of legal advisers in military decision-making and promoting respect for international humanitarian law during armed conflicts. Fourteen officers from different units participated to build capacity and integrate (IHL).

One month of hostilities in the Middle East has upended the lives of millions and sent shockwaves far beyond the region at a scale and speed that threatens to overwhelm the humanitarian response. The way hostilities have been waged has exacerbated the detrimental impact. Without respect for the rules of war, civilians will continue to suffer profound consequences that could outlast the current conflict. At a time of escalating needs and tightening humanitarian budgets, the ICRC and other organizations are being forced to adapt to disrupted supply chains that are undermining their operations. We’re happy to reaffirm our cooperation with @_JNRCS, continuing the long-standing partnership with the signed annual agreements for 2026, that focus on the protection of family links, capacity strengthening for preparedness & communication in support of #Syrian refugees in #Jo.

As a follow-up to the roundtable held earlier this year, & building on continued cooperation with the Correctional & Rehabilitation Centers Directorate, the ICRC organized a meeting with Jordanian authorities on overcrowding, focusing on recommendations, progress & challenges.

"The growing normalization of violations of IHL poses an existential threat to the Geneva Conventions &international law. This alarming trend requires urgent collective action" @YFridezICRC at the regional conference to galvanize global commitment to #IHL

During a meeting with @qcharity on the sidelines of the @DohaForum, @ICRC Director-General @PKraehenbuehl reflected on the newly signed agreement supporting the most vulnerable Syrian refugees in Jordan, with a focus on families of the missing: “Refugees who have a missing relative in Syria cope with the pain of not knowing their fate while facing urgent needs of their own. This support is both immediate and transformative — reinforcing dignity, stability, and the prospect of greater self-reliance.” #DohaForum25

As an important step in strengthening collaboration to promote #IHL in #Jordan, the @ICRC delegation in Amman & the @JIJ_Jordan signed a Memorandum of Understanding to integrate IHL into judicial training, fostering respect for the Geneva Conventions and their Protocols.
