The likely is the real aim.
Get NATO and allies to take over the straight or else “we’ll have to completely destroy Iran”.
Allies need oil to be flowing, Trump sees it as their job. This is a bigger ultimatum to allies than Iran itself.
Get Allies to agree to take over the strait, move out and call it a win calling both for the end of the war and also a NATO/allies effort to reopen.
Iran letting ships through and the premium on oil in the straight will actually help US oil to be relatively more profitable to sell abroad.
Either that or we are likely doomed with 100$+ oil for the next year and a worldwide recession.
