This needs to be said: We are at Jim Corbett and apparently there is no restriction on loud music till 10:30pm in the night. The roads are full of cars speeding around, at least 30 jeeps plying in one area of the forest, you can see brunt land on both sides and massive tree felling. So guilty of attending a family wedding here, I cannot say. There’s one I skipped because I didn’t want to be a party to destroying the habitat of animals. But why is Uttarakhand government allowing weddings in a forest reserve? India’s first Conservation Centre for the Slender Loris has been opened today at Kadavur in Dindigul district by the Hon'ble Forest Minister virtually, marking a significant milestone for the protection of one of the country’s most elusive and endangered primates. Built at a cost of Rs 16.04 Crores, the Centre will serve as a dedicated hub for habitat protection, population estimation & conservation action including walking trails. The moment is especially meaningful as it builds on the landmark step taken by the Government of Tamil Nadu in 2022, when India’s first Slender Loris Conservation Reserve was notified at Kadavur to an extent of 11,800 Ha in Karur and Dindigul Districts.
