“Extreme heat” in South Asia is becoming a regular reality. New findings from @WWAttribution show climate change is making deadly pre-monsoon heatwaves longer, hotter, and more frequent for hundreds of millions across the region. This is what climate injustice looks like: those contributing least to emissions are often the most exposed to the risks. Heat resilience must now be treated as a humanitarian and public health priority. @RCClimate worldweatherattribution.org/climate-change…

United In Humanity. No matter where. No matter when. On today's World Red Cross and Red Crescent Day, on behalf of the @IFRC, I would like to honour the millions of volunteers and staff who show up every day for people in crisis, standing on the frontlines of emergencies that affect them too. In an increasingly complex and polarized world, in a world marked by division and dehumanization, humanity is our common ground. It is what turns compassion into action. Today, we also remember and pay tribute to those who have lost their lives in service of others. For more than 160 years, the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement has stood alongside communities before, during and after crises, locally and globally. Let us all remain #UnitedInHumanity.

Bangladesh is currently experiencing a nationwide resurgence of measles since early 2026, posing a major public health concern, particularly for young children. Bangladesh Red Crescent Society (@BDRCS1) is on the ground conducting outbreak detection activities and household visits, disseminating health messages, and coordinating with institutions and organisations such as Institute of Epidemiology, Disease Control and Research, and Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS). @IFRC has launched critical Disaster Emergency Response Funds (@IFRC_DREF) of CHF 500,000 to scale up Bangladesh Red Crescent's operations.

Local action is the backbone of humanitarian response. The newly launched IFRC-DREF Strategic Ambition 2026–2030 reaffirms our commitment to @IFRC_DREF mandate: supporting fast, predictable, transparent and accountable locally led responses to small- and medium-sized disasters. At the heart of this ambition is a clear goal: to grow IFRC-DREF into a CHF 200 million replenishable, revolving pooled fund by 2030, aiming to reach 50 million people. As funding shrinks and crises grow more complex, National Societies remain the first and last line of defense for communities in need. Their role has never been more critical. Deeply concerned by reports that another Iranian Red Crescent @Iranian_RCS ambulance was hit while responding to an emergency on 5 April. Thankfully, no one was injured, but the vehicle was completely destroyed. Since the escalation of hostilities, several Red Crescent ambulances have been damaged, and four volunteers have lost their lives while saving others - in just five weeks of conflict. Any attack on health workers, ambulances, or medical facilities is unacceptable. The Red Crescent emblem is an internationally recognized and protected symbol of neutral, impartial and independent humanitarian assistance. We have called for the protection of humanitarian personnel and facilities before. We are calling again. Humanitarian facilities must be protected.

The global water crisis affects everyone, but not equally. Where people lack the human rights to safe drinking water and sanitation, inequalities flourish, with women and girls bearing the brunt. This World Water Day, it’s time to centre women and girls in water solutions. Because where water flows, equality grows. The IFRC joins the call to invest in women’s leadership to make water a force for a healthier, more prosperous, gender-equal future that will benefit us all. We must act now to secure health for everyone.

Misinformation costs lives. Beyond climate shocks and conflict, misinformation and dehumanizing narratives are eroding trust, endangering humanitarian volunteers, and obstructing life-saving aid. In an increasingly difficult environment, with growing needs and shrinking resources, the way in which humanitarian work is carried out is changing. However, the @IFRC network remains as committed as ever to providing humanitarian services that save and change lives. The following illustrates the core aspects of the IFRC’s work that will remain constant. The full Global Plan 2026 is now available on the @IFRC website 👉bit.ly/3LKNx4f

A Korail fire survivor shares what it meant to receive support from @BDRCS1, @ifrc and Red Cross Red Crescent partners which helped restore dignity amid devastation, when everything was lost. Local action + global solidarity matters. Dhaka 🇧🇩 📹 @IslamShameul 👏🏼

"My only request is that you stand with the people," says Payel Khatun, a resident in Korail slum - the largest slum in Dhaka, Bangladesh. Bangladesh Red Crescent was at the scene when a devastating fire tore through the area in November last year, destroying around 1,850 shanties and leaving thousands of families, including Payel’s, without shelter or security. @BDRCS1 supported by @IFRC and partners mobilised Youth volunteers, deployed ambulances, and distributed emergency relief. They remain with the people helping them rebuild.

One life lost is too many. As 2025 comes to a close, we remember the 27 colleagues we lost this year from our @IFRC network in the line of duty. They were mothers, fathers, siblings, colleagues, friends, people who dedicated their lives to saving others. Most were national staff. Local humanitarians are the first to respond in any crisis, yet they are also the ones who bear the overwhelming brunt of violence and loss. The Red Vest marked with our emblems is meant to protect our staff and volunteers, not become their death shroud. Every humanitarian killed is a lifeline cut. When they are attacked, entire communities lose access to care and hope. This is unacceptable. It is unbearable. And it must change in 2026. For the sake of humanity. Impunity in any place breeds impunity in every place. #ProtectHumanity
