Unbelievable: a Masrour Barzani-owned K24 reporter asked Trump whether the weapons he had mentioned before were in Sulaimani. Trump obviously ignored the premise and only said, “We will see who has them.” The Masrour camp reaching this level of desperation is telling. Sending a reporter who barely speaks English to ask that kind of question was clearly aimed at local consumption. Trump would have no reason to know what Sulaimani means in this context, let alone understand the political subtext behind the question. The US would also know who received the weapons if they were delivered. In fact, recent signals increasingly point in the opposite direction of the KDP narrative and suggest the weapons story may be true, with the KDP itself implicated. Look at the pattern: first, the sudden and explicit bribery and money-laundering investigation into Mansour Barzani, the top Barzani family figure with a military-linked role. The investigation suddenly popped up even though the case is more than six years old. Second, the US has fully cut weapons delivery to the Peshmerga, which is normally routed and distributed through Erbil, while increasing direct weapons delivery for PUK-linked Sulaimani SWAT, which is named separately in the Pentagon’s 2027 request. Third, Washington effectively green-lit the Iraqi parliament’s election of the PUK candidate as president, which is why all major Iraqi factions outside the KDP attended. The US ambassador then visited Nizar Amedi rather quickly, just one day after his election, to congratulate him. Taken together, these are not small signals. They suggest the KDP may be implicated and is now panicking, which helps explain these strange, performative moves.
