This past year was my 11th and final year covering for @MSHeartland_ as well as my last year at Ignatius. Before moving down south, I just wanted to express gratitude I had for many individuals in this space in this letter. Thank you all. docs.google.com/document/d/1aq…

@CorbieBO These are your seeds? I’m seeing Vandy 4/5 line most places so I’m surprised to see a projected 2 here, and top-7 no less.

Title: "Morning Run" Description:
Chris Chavez@ChrisChavez

Was just thinking about Cole Hocker’s path to doubling at the 2026 World Indoor Championships and did some qualifying crunching for his 3000m hopes. The 2026 World Indoor Championships qualifying standard for the 3000m is 7:33.00. Cole Hocker has not run a 3000m race under the World standard. He split 7:37.57 through 3000m during his two-mile at the Millrose Games, which counts. Hocker has the 1500m qualifier with his 3:30.80 split during his 3:45.94 mile last night. For the 3000m at Worlds, the targeted field size is 15 athletes. At the moment, five men have qualified automatically via the standard: 1.) 🇦🇺 Cam Myers 7:27.57 2.) 🇫🇷 Yann Schrub 7:29.38 3.) 🇮🇪 Andrew Coscoran 7:30.9 4.) 🇮🇪 Nick Griggs 7:32.79 5.) 🇺🇸 Graham Blanks 7:31.97 Here are the men currently ahead of Hocker, who are qualified via the Top List. 🇺🇸 Nico Young 7:33.32 🇺🇸 Yared Nuguse 7:33.78 🇺🇸 Marco Langon 7:34.56 🇺🇸 Ethan Strand 7:35.29 🇺🇸 Matthew Wilkinson 7:35.77 🇺🇸 Colin Sahlman 7:36.71 🇬🇧 George Couttie 7:36.74 🇮🇪 Darragh McElhinney 7:36.83 🇺🇸 Anthony Camerieri 7:37.08 🇺🇸 Samuel Prakel 7:37.16 🇬🇧 Josh Kerr 7:37.34 🇺🇸 Parker Wolfe 7:37.53 Currently, the 10 spots for World Indoors coming from the top list belong to: 🇺🇸 USA (Nico Young); 2x 🇬🇧 Great Britain (Couttie/Kerr); 🇦🇺 Australia (Ky Robinson); 🇵🇹Portugal (Isaac Nader); 🇿🇦 South Africa (Tshepo Tshite); 🇳🇱 Netherlands (Stefan Nillessen); 2x 🇰🇪 Kenya (Jacob Krop/Edwin Kurgat); 🇺🇾 Uruguay (Valentin Soca) Hocker is 11th among the Americans. Each country can only send two people, so if the U.S. went just off the list, the top two would be Blanks and Nico Young going to Worlds. However, the U.S. selects its team at the upcoming U.S. Indoor Track and Field Championships in Staten Island, where the top two finishers, provided they meet qualification criteria, will be on Team USA. Of the people ahead of him who we know likely won’t run at the U.S. Championships, you’d remove Marco Langon and Colin Sahlman since they’re in the NCAA. Graham Blanks, despite having the standard, has decided to shut his season down after the Millrose Games. If Cole wins at the U.S. Championships, you can remove most of the Americans ahead of him on the top list, and that brings him up to roughly 7th-8th in the world (assuming one of the Americans ahead of him comes second at USAs), behind Myers, Shrub, Coscoran, Griggs, McElhinney and Kerr. Hocker moves up when you remove one of the Irishmen, since they can only send two to the World Championships. Couttie is also still in the NCAA, so maybe even up another spot. But then also factor in Tshite getting the wildcard from the World Indoor Tour. Myers has also said he may not run the World Indoor Championships in favor of returning to Australia to race at the Maurie Plant meet, so that’s a spot coming out ahead of him. The biggest swing factor this week is the fast meet in Liévin on Thursday, where several Ethiopians and Kenyans (as well as 1500m world champion Isaac Nader) could post marks that reshuffle the list a little. Even in a scenario where multiple athletes leapfrog him, Hocker still appears to remain inside the projected quota. Just needs to take care of business at USAs. Josh Kerr, who also scratched from the UK Athletics Championships and was granted a medical exemption, is also relying on the same wait-and-see approach to qualify for the World Indoor Championships.

@Ray_Lewis67 @OlneyTigerTrack My comparison of the two is that in no other sport do coaches have assigned jobs or have to pay to enter state events. I am always willing to help at meets, but set it up in advance with a call or email. Have a plan, not an expectation. Current rule is an expectation.

@OlneyTigerTrack @ErnestKopp2 A solo hosting effort like that. And generally I’ve been comfortable being or contributing a volunteer knowing pulling these meets off are communal efforts. I don’t see it the same as limited passes because limiting passes doesn’t move the meet forward.

@OlneyTigerTrack @ErnestKopp2 But to also stipulate the host has to cover every role even further pinches who can or will host. I think it’s a good ideal the host covers completely but it’s not the current reality. We were a large team with a large staff and I’m not sure we’d be able to adequately pull (2/x)

Declan Doyle’s decision is a smart one, especially considering the new head coach trajectories. There is no coordinator / playcaller requirement any more. If the Bears keep winning, and playing great offense, he’ll have head coaching interviews next off-season.

@IHSA_IL @Gatorade The @Gatorade press release for Isabella sells her short. She was eighth at NXN as a freshman—so all of us here in Illinois know her 4th place finish was no shock, but rather right where she belongs. Well deserved, Isabella!

@grpwins @FDSportsbook Just give it some time, within the week. I suggest you buy the NE 28-24 exacta, and perhaps even the SEA 28-24 as an additional measure to corner the market.
