@S_Beasley @heitner That’s not how it works…. As an attorney you ask the judge to be dismissed (opposing counsel not leaving is a good sign to stay if you’re on the other side and not sure) …. Even if it’s just a docket call. Really not on the NCAA, it’s on those lawyers personally.

Genuinely wild that the NCAA’s legal team thought it was okay to just leave while a judge is still on the bench. Not a great look when you’re already losing these cases left and right. The NCAA and its lawyers believe they are above the law.

Judge Whitwell just went after the NCAA attorneys in Trinidad Chambliss case for leaving before he was handing down the ruling, mentioning that he guess they were headed to Knoxville (Joey Aguilar case) Said he will discuss holding them being in contempt of court

@TomMarsLaw I don’t recall seeing whether the NCAA asked Judge Whitwell to recuse himself. Truth is, Whitwell is an honorable man and is extremely knowledgeable about the law and takes his job very seriously.

Thoughts on home court advantage: State law breach of contract claims cannot be brought against the NCAA in federal court. State law also determines which venue(s) is proper. Where else besides MS do some people think the Chambliss case should have been filed? Vermont? 🤷🏻‍♂️

I just exercised my right as a Member of Congress to conduct an unannounced oversight visit of the ICE field facility in Baltimore. The staff I met with respected my right to visit, but what I saw was disgraceful. Kristi Noem has a budget of $75 billion she could use to ensure humane conditions, but we saw 60 men packed into a room shoulder-to-shoulder, 24-hours-a-day, with a single toilet in the room and no shower facilities. They sleep like sardines with aluminum foil blankets. Whether it’s for three days or seven days, nobody would want a member of their family warehoused there. The room set aside for dangerous criminals and violent offenders was empty. We’re demanding immediate answers and action.

@jackiechilesvfl @TreyWallace No he was pretty serious. Named the lawyers by name. They didn’t get official dismissal, I’ve never seen a lawyer leave a court like that especially when the other side is staying?

@TreyWallace Did the judge tell them they couldn’t leave? I presume that he will “try” to rule today would imply he would issue a written ruling.

NEWS: The NCAA attorneys did not appear for the verdict. Judge Robert Whitwell notes the court plans to issue a show cause to see if the NCAA attorneys should be held in contempt of court for failing to appear for the ruling. “That’s not how we do things here.”

@OleMissRebel90 It’s actually very unheard of. And it’s not the NCAA, he read out the name of the lawyers themselves. He requested a show of cause which means come back here and explain. Lawyers do not leave courtrooms without dismals from the judge. Especially when the other side is staying?

The fact that the NCAA attorneys left before the verdict was read says everything about their case. The Judge is considering holding them in contempt. Would be hilarious. 😂

@MichaelLKatz Never have seen that in my life. Without getting dismissal from the judge? Don’t care if you have court 12 hours away the next day, that shouldn’t happen.

I have been a lawyer for 20 years and I spend 3-5 days a week in court. I have never seen lawyers leave before a judge renders an opinion! Completely disrespectful and contumacious! @NCAA should be ashamed!

NCAA statement in response to the Trinidad Chambliss decision: "We will continue to defend the NCAA’s eligibility rules against repeated attempts to rob future generations of the opportunity..." The association continues to urge Congress to take action.
