Bands That Count: Nine is for Nine Inch Nails Nine Inch Nails or NIN was formed by singer/songwriter/multi-instrumentalist Trent Reznor in Cleveland in 1988. The industrial rock band was basically Reznor with other musicians, although English musician Atticus Ross of Tapeworm joined NIN in 2005. Despite rumors of religious or horror movie connotations, Reznor chose the name Nine Inch Nails because he liked the abbreviation. While he often put together touring musicians for live performances, NIN has been pretty much a one man act. Reznor writes the music. Reznor plays the instruments. Reznor sings the lyrics. Reznor produces the music. Such is the case with NIN's breakthrough album, Pretty Hate Machine. Released in 1990, the song featured Head Like a Hole. Reznor wrote it in about 15 minutes while on tour with the band Skinny Puppy. The video ended up in heavy rotation on MTV. However, unlike most of NIN's songs, this was co-produced by Reznor, Flood and Keith LeBlanc. NIN followed up Pretty Hate Machine with the Broken and Fixed EPs in 1992, and then unleashed the magnum opus, The Downward Spiral in 1994, one of the essential albums of the 1990s.

Let me break it down for everyone 👇🏼 Everyone is upset that an Ontario judge said you can’t just keep displacing homeless people. Here’s an idea: stop complaining about homeless people and start demanding governments actually house people. Then maybe the courts wouldn’t have to step in to protect basic human rights. You can’t oppose encampments, oppose supportive housing, oppose shelters, oppose affordable housing, oppose mental health supports and then complain that homelessness still exists. You don’t solve homelessness by pushing people from one sidewalk to another. You solve it by giving people somewhere to go.

Mark Carney compared the idea of an Alberta sovereignty referendum to Brexit, warning that using it as leverage in negotiations can become a risky gamble that leaves voters with consequences they never intended.
