@novaramedia If we are to believe this study then the logical conclusion is that there should be no separate male and female categories as the difference between a man and a transwoman is psychological & not necessarily physical. This conclusion of course does not stand reasonable scrutiny.

Transgender women athletes have no advantage over cisgender women, a study in the British Journal of Sports Medicine has found. The researchers found that there was no evidence “to justify blanket bans” on trans women competing in women’s sport and that the data doesn’t support “inherent athletic advantage theories”. The pooled data analysis of 52 studies on 6,485 people considered strength, fitness and body composition of trans women receiving gender-affirming hormone therapy. Trans women were found to have more lean mass (a proxy for muscle), but there were no observable differences in upper or lower body strength, or in a key measure of cardiorespiratory fitness – maximal oxygen consumption – between trans and cis women. The researchers said: “Although the current data do not justify blanket bans, critical gaps in literature were found, notably the under-representation of transgender athletes who may retain more ‘muscle memory’.” They added that more long-term and high-quality studies are needed to “prioritise performance-specific metrics in transgender athletes” but the “scarce number” of trans people in elite sport makes this difficult. The inclusion of trans women in women’s sports has been a key issue for anti-trans campaigners. Last year, the Football Association banned trans women from taking part in women’s football in England, and the England and Wales Cricket Board banned trans women from all levels of women’s cricket. This came after the UK supreme court ruled in April 2025 that the legal definition of a woman under the Equality Act is based on biological sex.

I am a published scientist with a Master's Degree in Biology from NYU. I don't care that your favorite uneducated and unqualified podcaster told you that gender is biological. SEX is Biology. The concept of gender belongs to social science. Transphobia makes you look stupid.

@mattxiv The fact that gender criticals share some goals with Christian groups, in relation to the trans issue doesnt mean they have any commonality on gay rights. I saw a few cross dressers when I marched against clause 28 in the 80s but no men that claimed to be women.

As a relatively tall woman, with broad shoulders and size 9 feet I'd feel more threatened by gender critical women in a changing room than the many other women that I know. Why? Because I don't *conform* they'd be fixated in looking at my crotch area thinking their behaviour was "normal"🤔

@ejhchess @Broonjunior The Times is a respected British institution and a paper of record. I dont accept that a University student who is willing to speak up for womens rights is privileged. The students promoting gender ideoligy are just as likeky to have rich parents.

@Broonjunior @RedGrouper However, this is the Times which is unscrupulous at the best of, ah, times, and it's not just single-sourced but the source is somebody with privileged access to media. A reputable newspaper does not act like this and as it stands this is *way* short of being a reliable account.

As it goes, when I was an Oxbridge student I was once thrown out of a pub without saying a word (it was for wearing a football scarf). I didn't get to write a piece in the nationals about it, but then again my mother was a schoolteacher rather than a high-ranking journalist.

@ejhchess @Broonjunior Gender critical beliefs are simply a sketicism about the existence of gender identity as a valid concept or as something more important than biological sex. Since gender theory is a recent invention of western socioligists it is difficult to argue that people must accept it.

@Broonjunior @RedGrouper As far as whether GC views should be protected, I am personally sceptical but as you say that is how the law has ruled and we need to accept that.

@ejhchess @Broonjunior There only time it would be inappropriate to express a protected belief would be if it was done deliberately to bully or petsecute someone. Otherwise, the right to hold a belief must confer the right to express it-unless you believe in clairvoyance.

@Broonjunior @RedGrouper However, my observation is that many people of that persuasion do not understand, or care to, that there is a distinction between a viewpoint being legal to hold and express, and it being acceptable to express that viewpoint in any manner and at any time or place you see fit.

@PatrickLenton Gender critical beliefs are protected-and Employment Tribunals and other legal proceedings have found them not to be bigoted - despite the best efforts of activist lawyers to falsely represent them as such.

Pub kicks out bigot for bigotry. They are legally allowed to do this. Transphobes seem to believe they have an absolute right to their bigotry & everyone just has to take it. The real world doesn't work that way & there are consequences for it, like being barred from pubs.

@Broonjunior At no point am I going to consider seriously the suggestion that this is a serious story that belongs in a newspaper, that what happened was of any concern to the wider public or that this story would have appeared were it not by someone enjoying special privileges and access.

@GyllKing Forty years ago we didnt have males in womens sport or prisons, young women with autism being encouraged to think they are really male, or people being told they are cis gendered. It is radical trans activism since 2016 that caused all this conflict. Totally unnecessary.

I don’t care how men feel about not being allowed into women’s spaces. A man’s feelings about not being allowed in female spaces is for him to deal with, not for every girl and woman in this country to deal with.
