As a kid I was a cheerleader for the invasion of Iraq. I didn’t know anything, but bought all the media propaganda. Then the US toppled the regime and everything seemed to go well. I got even more arrogant. This was a blue city where I lived - and just being on the right and challenging everyone was intoxicating. And the Iraqis had ‘elections’ and the people had their fingers dipped in ink to show their pride in their new ‘democracy.’ And then it all turned to chaos and hell that we are still dealing with. After about 2006, I had to admit that all my arrogance from watching Fox News was misguided and destructive. My leftwing friends had been right all along - even though I don’t think they were really right - they just hated Bush and cheered that his project went south. But that took nearly 3 years. We don’t know how this thing in Iran will play out. It could look good for months or even a couple years - and then be a disaster. We just don’t know. It could also work out. But that’s why I was skeptical about this and posted that skepticism. I’m just a reasonably well informed guy. I could be wrong. But I think everyone should approach this with some humility. Triumphalism is way too soon.
