This group knows it’s the poisoned drug supply that’s causing deaths. It’s a PROHIBITION CRISIS. You’re completely untrustworthy, taking millions from billionaires, ruining lives by running propaganda campaigns. americanprogress.org/c3-our-support…

Tomorrow I'm teaching a module on the use of measurements & statistics in my drug policy course. What are your best examples of disingenuous, bad faith, misinterpretation, or misrepresentation of drugs stats? I'd love to share with the class (with attribution of course). Cheers!

@guardiannews Whatever your opinion on the CDC… why should we, people living with intractable pain, have to see our tragedy called a "hoax" in a major newspaper? @ChrisMcGreal our experience is not a hoax. It is firsthand knowledge, and I don't wish it on anyone. nytimes.com/2019/02/09/opi…

Good thread from a psychiatrist —who co-wrote book on somatization disorders after a residency with world leading expert and now teaches at Harvard— on why the latest article lumping post-viral syndromes (Long Covid, ME/CFS) into that bucket is misguided and scientifically wrong.

@DrZoffness Common ground: we can agree many teens live with high risk, and we all deserve access to the best non-opioid therapies. However, 80% is from a question about non-medical use ("not prescribed for you"). Data doesn't show if they were ever pain patients. samhsa.gov/data/sites/def…

I am NOT saying opioids are always bad. But 80% of current heroin users started out as pain patients (!!!) For a CHILD with a fam history of addiction who has significant predisposing stressors, they're not the cure 🛑 Shame on us. We MUST do BETTER 👏🏼👏🏼 ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/books/NBK45866…

One of my teen patients went to the ER for a pain flare. He was immediately put on a high dose of opioids. He has a family history of addiction. He has major stressors that put him at high risk of addiction. His brain is still developing. No one is listening. 💔 #MedTwitter

@ChadDKollas @HealthyFla @CDCgov @WSJ @CDCGapMisapp @CDCInjury Many people start using illicit opioids after they were prescribed opioids. If you read the piece, instead of just emoting on Twitter, you’d see that 80% of heroine users started with prescription opioids. Doctors and Big Pharms stated this problem. Maybe you should fix it.

2022 @CDCgov Opioid Guidelines: “Opioids can be essential medications for the management of pain; however, they carry considerable potential risk.” Dr. Scheppke: "Potential risk? There is nothing potential about it." Read our full response on @WSJ: on.wsj.com/3i8lRY0

People are applying for MAiD out of fear of becoming homeless. People are applying for MAiD after long periods of being denied access to pain medications. I will never not be amazed we live in a time where you can't get proper pain meds but can get lethal injection for pain.

@life_is_art___ @jonathanstea Totally expecting to see some new fad MLM called Painly or Painsy or something, where you invest $5000 to sell diffusers and energy crystals and recruit your neighbors to join the downline. ("Unlike all those pyramid schemes, our system is evidence based!")

@jonathanstea You’ll love this one. The pain tx industry in the US has been completely entrenched with this stuff. The irony of the OSHU “evidence based practice center” medical director promoting this in place of FDA approved meds. Smdh.

“Integrative medicine” unethically deceives patients using a Bait-and-Switch tactic. Bait: offer legitimate treatments (e.g., nutrition, exercise, etc.). Switch: promote unsupported/disproven/pseudoscientific treatments (e.g., homeopathy, energy healing, etc.).

Many ME patients also trace their illness to a viral event. Then we got a pandemic, a novel virus, and then a subset of people developed the *same* baffling confusing symptoms that ME patients had, without even having heard of ME, ever. That's not how psychological spread works.

@CHIME_OAC @MeritusHealth @BayCare If you target "high prescribers," what are you actually doing? Are you reducing the *number of prescriptions* for short-term medication that wasn't really needed? Or are you knocking down *dosage numbers* on long-term pain patients, destabilizing and seriously harming them?

Beyond that, I've met incredible people, and learned so much. Marginalized people have a voice here and we can amplify them in ways that are hard to do elsewhere. That makes the world better, it just does. I would never have met most of you without this site. 8/

Some of us are capable of living totally normal, utterly mundane lives while taking strong opioids. You'd never know we were "using" because to us what you call "high" is our "normal. This idea people *must* stop because opioids are evil is based in moralistic nonsense.

Provide Aimovig for migraine on the NHS
@CortDoesScience seems an example of an 'evidence of absence' interpretation of our incomplete medical understanding. The 'illness' of chronic pain has no diagnostic test. Instead it engulfs everything outside the light of contemporary biomedical knowledge.

Kaiser is sending these letters. What I want to know is if a CPP is abandoned or forced off meds, do they send a letter of concern then also? Or is it just being on Rx opioids that they care about?
