Easy to read this as sign of De Wever's statesmanship when it is more about him channelling the sectoral interests of the Antwerp petrochemical industry - whose carbon-intensity makes them very cool lovers of the green transition.

Belgium’s PM Bart de Wever: “We must normalise relations with Russia and regain access to cheap energy. That is common sense. [...] We must end the conflict in the interest of Europe, without being naïve towards Putin.” ft.com/content/4ce019…

@mbauwens My only question: how would the archipelago survive and not become collateral (to be generous) damage of the violent state-collapse process unfolding all around them?

Perhaps a little comment. Either Mr. Broze believes, like our beloved Chinese-Canadian professor, that the Illuminati are running the world Or like any good post-Marxist (myself included), that organized transnational capital factions (not necessarily united in a single conspiracy) profit from both North and South, East and West, and protect their interests globally, with influence on all governments. Civilizational states and market forces are inter-dependent of each other, that is just the reality of the day, as it always was since we abandoned kinship as the organizing principle. (mixed systems like feudal medieval Europe perhaps excluded). But, let's be realistic, the Crypto economy as a whole, is suffused by the very same interests, in every single pore of its collective body. The Network State, in that context, would be just more of the same. (@balajione , always the realist, knows and acknowledges that crypto-libertarianiasm needs a Lee Kuan Yew, or nowadays, a Milei?). Network states, in the current ideological iteration, are Silicon Valley's exit away from the warring Blue and Red tribes). A truly more independent initiative would be the Cosmo-Local Initiative, the creation of a Archipelago of Regenerative Projects. These would still need capital mind you, but could set up rules for common-compatible investment vehicles, to which even the Illuminati, if they exist, would have to abide.

M. @araghchi you are correct, and there is more to the Bernays story. I hope you get to read my tweet as I believe you might find it interesting. The fatal weakness of Bernays perspective lay in the fact that he believed the nonsensical theories of his uncle Sigmund Freud, according to which the human psyche's unconscious foundations lie in darkly repressed sexual urges. Accordingly, Bernays basically used sex and toxic masculinity (which promises the he-man he'll get his ways with the girl, whether by hook or by crook) to propagandize the Western public and sell them anything from cigarettes, soap and drugs all the way to racism, war and genocide. Bernays, like most racists, could never conceive that Freud's theories, far from being universal, only applied to the diseased Western colonial mind at a particular historical juncture, that of the first serious wobbles of imperialist capitalism. Indeed, Freud's so-called "Oedipus complex", was nothing more than a projection of White imperial lust: Go back to Africa and Asia, cradles of humanity's forefathers and civilization, to kill and enslave the men and rape and plunder the women folk and Mother Earth. White supremacists cannot conceive that not all minds are as diseased as their own and that the deep psyche of the Free People of the World is not founded in unconscious perverted sexual desires, but in dignity, self-determination and sovereignty. That is, in living freely on the land in harmony with one's loved ones, family, community and neighbors. This is why their propaganda is so poor and only speaks to the ever-shrinking circles of those for whom Epstein is a role model.
Seyed Abbas Araghchi@araghchi

It is said that Edward Bernays, a pioneer of mass persuasion, served on Committee on Public Information and worked to help Woodrow Wilson rally Americans for war in Europe. When he and Walter Lippmann met president in 1917, they reportedly said “We can sell the war to the public”

One of the most heartbreaking examples of nonverbal communication to emerge from Iran. I cannot call this a mere propaganda piece. It is the unbearable truth, laid bare through the profound art of cinematography and animation.

Debatable. Reich still bought that nonsense about sex being at the root of the human psyche, and his attempt to give a dialectical materialist account of the unconscious on this basis fails for the same reason Freudian slop did. Wrong target, no understanding of the actual basic processes underlying meaning, complex cognition, language, human consciousness, and individual and collective conscious and unconscious identities. As with Freud, in Reich all that was valuable was not new, and all that was new was not just mere speculation, but simply wrong.

Professor Marandi delivers the most savage, unfiltered indictment of Western media ever broadcast. He accuses the presenter of producing fake narratives to legitimize the carpet bombing and rape of a nation, making her complicit in war crimes. Absolute cinema.

@SaysSimulation I remember my Dad in the 1970s telling me how newspapers always seemed very convincing until they started writing about something you were personally involved in or knew about, at which point you could spot the rookie errors a mile off. Plus ça change...

When you come down to it, this is really about the epistemology of X, what is the real nature of knowledge here? However, I don't like to use those big words, lest I get accused of getting too big for my overalls. 6/

A crucial precedent, which also applies to all EU states and the UK: a court rules that Belgium had an obligation to act against Israel since 26 January 2024, when the International Court of Justice determined the plausible risk of the commission of genocidal acts in Gaza.
Al-Haq الحق@alhaq_org

Al-Haq welcomes landmark decision of Brussels Court of Appeal, from 16 March, finding Belgium did not do everything reasonably in its power, at the opportune moment, to prevent Israel's genocide and grave breaches of Geneva Conventions against the Palestinian people. /1

NEW: Will Google's AI hype man kill the BBC? I've written about Matt Brittin because the coverage of his time at Google is shockingly naive. The BBC's next DG made his career as a yes man at a rapacious AI monopoly that preys on news journalism in order to destroy it. 1/

Awful, heartbreaking, unacceptable We’ve just been at the funeral of two young volunteer paramedics in southern Lebanon - killed in a direct Israeli strike… one was only 16 years old They were killed whilst wearing their full kit according to witnesses - returning from the scene of an earlier strike The deliberate targeting of healthcare workers is a war crime but Israel has killed dozens here in recent weeks (and many more in 2024 and in Gaza)

I am starting to suspect that it is impossible for the Western mind to process military defeat. Read this one to understand just how lost they all are. Maybe frozen conflict? Maybe return to 2018? 🙈🤣 The shared reference frame has created a vast distortion field where killings are being universally described as “tactical success,” where the US has the option of going back to the status quo ante, where one can expect Iran to accept limits on its missile arsenal. Hypernormalized hall of mirrors straight out of Curtis.
Bloomberg@business

In Iran, the US has won tactically, lost strategically, and now has a choice between the embarrassing and the catastrophic. @andreaskluth advises the former (via @opinion) bloomberg.com/opinion/articl…

How on earth is the EU Parliament ratifying von der Leyen’s US-EU surrender deal? 15% tariffs on EU exports against 0% on US imports, plus over €1tn in forced purchases of US oil, LNG & weapons. With Trump threatening Greenland, targeting Spain, and his own Supreme Court striking down his tariffs, MEPs are about to rubber-stamp a deal that’s manifestly an own goal for europe. They do so against the public opinion they’re supposed to represent. This isn’t ratification. It’s capitulation.
