@denisehearn_ @JosephNWalker The story goes that NZ invented the 2% target while down at the pub one day reuters.com/markets/mouse-…
English

@JosephNWalker I'm an hour in. This feels validating.
1. I've never heard a good explanation for the 2% inflation target. He admits it was conjured 'out of thin air' essentially.
2. Appreciated his reflections on the need for balance between central bank independence + oversight.
English

It was a great honour sitting down in Chicago with former IMF chief economist (2003-2006) and Governor of the Reserve Bank of India (2013-2016) Raghuram Rajan.
We discuss:
- the deep causes of the GFC & Great Recession
- why the Keynesian approach to restoring aggregate demand didn't work after the GFC
- whether unconventional monetary policy has done more harm than good
- which central bank has the best-adapted governance structure in the world
- how inflation expectations are actually formed
- why most major central banks have coalesced around a 2% inflation target
- whether monetary policy should target financial stability
- Raghu's thoughts on the RBA Review in Australia
- and much, much more
Enjoy!

@Falloutt @MonsoonGG @Complexity @lewdaa_ @Codddy_ @thyAshes @coL_Fantasy @TYPOGRAPH1C @PlayApexEsports I hear he is an absolute legend in the kitchen too
English

Just want to circle back on what (IMO) is the best story coming out of ALGS Regional Finals weekend: The remarkable person/story that is @MonsoonGG & org that is @Complexity
Lansoon was reportedly close to retiring from playing professional Apex Legends just months ago around Split 1 Playoff time, considering a move to joining the ALGS broadcast team or becoming a coach or full time content creator
Complexity was allegedly considering an exit from ALGS, similar to @Cloud9 @TeamLiquid @G2esports and others
Instead, Complexity, who has believed in and backed Monsoon as the Apex face of the organization for over two years now through all the highs and lows, reaffirmed their belief in Monsoon by signing @lewdaa_ & @Codddy_ who had never before been signed to a tier 1 org, giving Monsoon another chance to lead a team to LAN Qualification and staying committed to Apex Legends esports
Months later, Monsoon, Lewda, and Coddy qualified for LAN in the most competitive Region and ALGS Pro League Split we have ever seen over great teams like CLG, OXG, Wildcard, etc
Massive congratulations goes to Monsoon as well as the entire Complexity org for believing in him and Apex: @coL_Fantasy @thyAshes and everyone else at coL behind the scenes. I can’t wait to see what they do with the return of Monsoon on LAN and (I believe) Complexity’s ALGS LAN debut (Monsoon was on @FlyQuest in Poland, didn’t play in Sweden and London Playoffs, and subbed for another team at Champs)
