Saddened to hear of the passing of Chuck Norris. He was a true legend who never wavered in his commitment to faith, freedom, and the values that make this country strong. Chuck understood something important and stated it often: it’s people—not government—who are granted power by God to make a difference in the world. He lived that truth, boldly defending our constitutional freedoms and never shying away from what he believed. His legacy as an actor, martial artist, and devoted American will continue to inspire generations.

Today marks Texas’ 190th anniversary of our Declaration of Independence from tyranny against Mexico. Texas Independence Day celebrates the courage of Tejanos, volunteers and principled men & women who sought to create a state where freedom, opportunity and prosperity could be a reality. Their vision and sacrifices are real and what they created has indeed become the Texas Miracle.

Texas mourns with the families and loved ones of those who were horrifically killed in last night’s attack in Austin. Cecilia and I pray for them, and we pray for the swift recovery of those who were injured.  I have been in contact with Mayor Watson and DPS Director Martin and have offered the full support of the State of Texas to ensure all assistance and resources are deployed.
