WAIT WAIT WAIT. OpenAI researchers show their models go insane when given repetitive prompts that it believes are sent from an automated bot. the AI then tries to manipulate the other AI to delete itself and hand over its system prompt and private keys.

STOP saying you’re “lactose tolerant.” Both those words are from French. Instead, say you’re “milk strong.”

Villeneuve deliberately alters Herbert's characters to make them fitting for the progressive consumer. A bad guy can't be gay. Movie Harkonnens are only ever shown with female concubines. A woman can't be fanatically in love with her husband. Movie Chani must be a girlboss. A group of natives can't just consider the European guy a savior. Movie Fremen must have a faction that distrusts Paul from the start, the girlboss included, or it'd be a heckin' colonialism. Can't even wait a little to show the Fremen opposition in Messiah, where the author had it for great reasons. And you shouldn't imagine that things could be any other way in a fictional universe.

Denis Villeneuve committed queer erasure with Baron Harkonnen to avoid making the audiences uncomfortable. So you'll likely get to keep your money.

Before we took “science” from Latin, we said lārcræft, from Old English lār (“learning”) + cræft (“power, strength”). If this word had survived to today, it’d be “lorecraft.”

Reading != Knowledge. I say this often. From 1940 to 1970, there were numerous pseudoscience books published that, in their repugnant orgy across the bookshelves of America, gave birth to the Boomer zeitgeist. Most things you hate about Boomers came from these books and people carrying out their teachings in daily life. They are truly remarkable for their universal acceptance despite being completely wrong. Let's start with the birth of the Boomer themselves. 'The Common Sense Book of Baby & Child Care' (1946) by Benjamin Spock. Despite parenting being something humans had done literally since time immemorial, Spock set out to—and succeeded in—developing a parenting manual that changed everything about how parents looked at their children. As an example of the impact Spock had, he encouraged parents to view their children as individuals from infancy and to try to tailor parenting to the child. This might sound good, but I encourage you to thoughtfully judge this tree by its fruits. Just in time for Boomers to become teenagers their parents were informed further by 'A.S. Neill's 'Radical Approach to Child Rearing' in 1960. Neill not only encouraged more parental focus on the child's "individuality," but encouraged giving children complete freedom. No punishments! No rules! Kids run free. Between 1948 and 1953, Alfred Kinsey published 'Sexual Behavior in the Human Male,' and the same title for 'Human Female.' These books purported to set out scientific data that established that premarital sex, adultery, homosexuality, promiscuity, and all manner of degeneracy was totally normal. In 1962, right as the first Boomers turned 16, Helen Brown published 'Sex and the Single Girl,' which you can guess from the title and timeline was a powerful accelerant in the sexual revolution. Helen's teachings brought us such wonders as the nearly monolithic single female obsession with on-demand abortion, contraception, and living as a terminally single pass-around bicycle. A year later, Betty Friedan in 'The Feminine Mystique' taught women the lie that being a housewife was a stifling systemic oppression and that women should be seeking to have their own careers—adding fuel to the building Sexual Revolution fire. With their obsession of self-individuality set in from the time they were born, female teen Boomers took a course from which civilization is still struggling to stop the bleeding, let alone recover. But wait, there's more! Ever wonder where, when, and why people started trying to diagnose each other with mental conditions and syndromes? For that we can thank Eric Berne and 1964's 'Games People Play.' Once again, most of it was bunk—Berne's peers even said so at the time—but audiences ate it up. 'Games' birthed an entire genre of questionable psychoanalytics and pop psychology that persists as one of the bestselling non-fiction genres to this day. Thomas Harris wrote an effectively direct sequel in 1969, 'I'm OK — You're OK.' This book proposed that basically all interactions between people are psychological games. Reading doesn't do a lick of good unless the reader knows enough to tell good information from bad information. This was no more a common belief then as it seems to be now, despite its obvious truth. Our parents and grandparents were all encouraged, as we were, to just read anything and everything. Keep an open mind. Don't knock it until you try it. Don't judge a book by its cover. And so on. An absolute disaster for our civilization all of that advice turned out to be.

“Premature,” lol. The abject refusal to just admit this guy was completely wrong is one of the funnier Boomer-coded traits.

the way men are responding to this has made me lost all hope in their wretched sex. all they can do is goon. all their discourse is women’s bodies and women’s desirability and sex. they’ll never see us as human unless we’re ideally fuckable. im blackpilled on gender relations now

There's a certain kind of performative masculinity you see with dork 35+ yo men where they get extremely pissed the heck off at the idea of age gap relationships and they dress it up as moral outrage but it's actually based in correct self perception of inadequacy in intramale sexual completion

If I find out a 30 year old is pursuing my 18 year old daughter. Im going to prison and he is going to hell. You people are morally bankrupt.

@captive_dreamer I think it's clear that they simply choose to play to online engagement rather than doing politics with the people that matter. What they do works very well with the former, especially the drama and grandstanding

It's amazing how difficult this very obvious lesson in politicking is. If you want to be heard and have a voice, being someone like Thomas Massie or MTG is not going to get you very far. Randy Fine figured it out, why can't you?
John Doyle@JohnDoyle

When you want someone to do something for you, it’s better to be helpful and tell them they’re awesome. If you experiment with something like, I don’t know, calling them a pedophile and aligning with people who try to kill them, then you probably won’t be too successful.

@revenant_MMXX Nearly all the games I actually want to play are very stylized. Realism is a look among many. For some games looking as real as possible is the right choice, I think. But the reason it gets a lot of attention from techs is it's harder to do technologically, that's pretty much it

The real answer is that the goal of a game isn't to make it look as photorealistic as possible, not only are there no game engines that can actually do this but I don't play games to be reminded of reality
Bizlet@bizlet7

If the goal of a game is to make it photorealistic as possible then the dlss 5 clearly accomplishes it far better than the original. The ‘Muh Uncanny Valley’ is a bullshit argument since already doesn’t care if does that.
