Remember The Calimo

May 14 shall now forever be known throughout Bear Territory as CALIMONY DAY! Happy Calimony Day to all who celebrate! We'll have 10 million reasons to celebrate for at least the next three years (and likely at least a few more) thanks to the UC Regents and our pals at UCLA!

If you'll indulge me a moment, I have something to share on this, the first anniversary of #Calimony... The @RememberCalimo account was a joint project of myself and Cocaine Bear (@nyt_wordle_bot) aka Drac (@draculaic). His great idea and concept, my okay at best execution. The man behind those accounts was one of the sharpest, wittiest, most kind-hearted souls I ever had the privilege to know. He passed away unexpectedly on April 17. He was just 44 years old. "Coke Bear" was maybe best known in the #Calgorithm community as the architect of the "Ott to Go" phenomenon. He was kind enough to get me involved in this incredible project, along with @itsmickyhage (vocals/production), @atomsareenough (editorial input), @wokemobfootball (video production), and @TwistNH7 (sabotage). He was a talented guy with a creative mind who probably could have done it all himself, but he wanted to share it with us instead. He was a proud Cal Bear, and was so excited to collaborate with his friends and contribute something meaningful and fun to our community. I wish he'd been there at GameDay on the Glade with me to witness thousands of fans singing along to his song. I wish he'd been there at the Cal Ice Hockey game to meet Jaydn Ott with me, to hear Jaydn tell us directly how much he appreciated the song (and how his little sisters loved it the most). Most of all, I just wish he were still here now. He'll be missed by many, and although I only got a few years with him in my life, I will always be grateful. 🫡

Gosh, nobody knows how to throw money into a fire pit better than our Bruin buds! But the $52M deficit UCLA athletics ran up in the last fiscal year is nothing compared to the priceless warmth in their little baby blue hearts when they generously pay #Calimony to the Cal Bears!

But that's just a guess.
