Trump and the GOP know they can't win on the merits. So they're emasculating the Voting Rights Act, changing the maps, and trying to take representation and power away from Black Americans to hang onto their majority. That's what this is all about. Trump and the GOP are coming for the power of Black voters in Memphis. They emasculated the VRA, now Trump needs them to finish the job by November to save his majority in Congress. Trump's SCOTUS just weakened the Voting Rights Act, effectively undoing the work of MLK, John Lewis and so many others. The VRA has has guaranteed minority voters the right to elect the representatives of their choice for generations. Representation is power—that's what they want to take away.

Indicting James Comey over a photo of seashells is clearly an abuse of power. The photo was never a threat, but they know that—we are seeing a vindictive president weaponize the DOJ against his perceived enemies. The First Amendment to the United States Constitution exists to stop exactly this.

Reports are surfacing that the Trump DOJ has indicted former FBI Director James Comey over his social media post featuring seashells forming the number "8647." The term "86" is common restaurant and colloquial slang meaning to eject, cancel, or get rid of something—as in, "Let’s 86 that idea" or "We need to 86 the salmon from the menu."

Rep. David Scott (D-Ga.) passed away last night, according to multiple House Democratic members and aides. The Congressional Black Caucus is holding its weekly meeting, where many members are learning the news. Rep. Emanuel Cleaver opened with a prayer before Chair Yvette Clarke addressed the caucus, sources tell me. Scott represented Georgia’s 13th District since 2003 and made history as the first Black chair of the House Agriculture Committee. He was 80.

I cosponsored articles of impeachment against Pete Hegseth. Hegseth is the most unqualified SecDef in history. He helped launch Trump’s unconstitutional war in Iran, endangered US servicemembers, and has committed war crimes—including attacks on children. He needs to be removed from office.

I just learned that my very very good friend Don Schlitz died last night. He was one of the finest songwriters of our time. He’s inducted in the country music Hall of Fame and the country music songwriters Hall of Fame.Most known for writing The Gambler which Kenny Rogers recorded. behind all of that he was just a decent nice man My condolences to his widow Stacy, and all of his family and fans. Listen to some Don Schlitz you’ll love it.
