"I wholeheartedly condemn the president’s suggestion that the United States is going to take over the Strait of Hormuz. Firstly, there is likely no scenario in which the U.S. could take total control of the Strait of Hormuz without significantly escalating the conflict and putting U.S. military personnel in harm’s way. To do so and demand other countries pay us to gain safe passage would be a violation of international law and, frankly, just wrong. The President of the United States is now in a fight with Iran over who can extort the rest of the world." - @HASCDemocrats Ranking Member @RepAdamSmith

Years in the making! Today, I was glad to join Mayor Andy Chan, Mayor Susan Sample, @VoteAnnJohnson, @HCFCD, and community leaders to break ground on the Poor Farm Ditch project! The partnership that has made the Poor Farm Ditch Rehabilitation Project possible reflects what we can do when we work together. It has been a collaborative process, and I am proud to have secured nearly $10 million in congressionally directed funds to move this project forward.

As I shared with those gathered at this morning's vigil, my heart is heavy for Lorenzo Salgado Araujo's family, for our Houston community, and for our country. Throughout our history, we have not always lived up to our highest ideals, but we have not abandoned the ideal of liberty and justice for all. And we cannot do so now. Now more than ever, we must work together to protect the people of America and to protect the promise of America.

Lorenzo Salgado Araujo’s family, our community and people across our country deserve an independent investigation into his death at the hands of federal agents. That is the baseline of what Americans expect and deserve. I joined @RepSylviaGarcia, @RepAlGreen, and @RepCDMenefee in demanding answers from DHS and ICE and a full, transparent account of what happened.
Rep. Sylvia Garcia@RepSylviaGarcia

ICE shot and killed Lorenzo Salgado Araujo in our community. His family deserves answers. That is why I sent a letter to DHS and ICE demanding a real independent investigation, all video footage, and a full accounting of what happened. ICE cannot investigate itself. @RepAlGreen @RepFletcher @RepCDMenefee @HispanicCaucus

On July 9, 1868, the Fourteenth Amendment became law, ensuring rights and citizenship for formerly enslaved people. This amendment's equal protection clause has been the basis upon which our society has reduced discrimination and improved civic life. #America250

Last month, Acting AG Todd Blanche told Congress the administration was “not moving forward" with that $1.776 billion slush fund. This is insufficient. I signed my friend and colleague @RepRaskin's discharge petition to block this fund and this kind of corruption permanently. ⬇️
Rep. Jamie Raskin@RepRaskin

BIG NEWS: I just signed and filed a discharge petition to force a floor vote on my legislation to permanently block Trump’s $1.8 BILLION taxpayer-funded slush fund for his January 6 private militia and family-sized Super Pardon. I'm calling on all members of Congress to sign on. We can stop this self-dealing scheme and stand up for the taxpayers.

My heart is with the family of Lorenzo Salgado Araujo and his friends and neighbors in Magnolia Park as our community mourns this tragic loss. We must have an independent and thorough investigation into ICE's actions in this incident, one that gives our community and people across the country a full and accurate accounting of all that occurred. Over the last year in particular, ICE agents have engaged in dangerous and reckless actions in our cities and states. That must come to an end.  All available footage, communications, and other evidence must be preserved and analyzed. Transparency and accountability are not optional. Houstonians and all Americans deserve the truth. houstonchronicle.com/news/houston-t…

In the House, we keep hearing our Republicans colleagues talk about waste, fraud, and abuse. We all agree we should work to prevent those things. And we have long-established, effective systems in place to do it. But President Trump has dismantled the agencies and organizations designed to combat fraud, and he has pardoned at least 70 allies, donors, and others who have been convicted of fraud. These things don't add up.

As the New World screwworm continues to spread, we see how failure to prepare impedes a comprehensive and coordinated response. For decades, dedicated federal experts kept our country relatively pest-free. Last year, however, USDA terminated roughly 15% of these experts, and the DOGE crew eliminated a Screwworm monitoring program. That's why I led my Texas colleagues in demanding answers from the Secretary of Agriculture on how these cuts at USDA have impacted the response to this outbreak. All of the Democrats in our Texas delegation joined me. texastribune.org/2026/06/24/new…

My resolution proposing a constitutional amendment to overturn the Supreme Court’s Citizens United decision now has 88 co-sponsors! (You can view the full list at: congress.gov/bill/119th-con…) I won’t stop fighting to get it across the finish line.

I join people across #TX07 in remembering and honoring the life of Congressman Bill Archer. Representing Texas' Seventh Congressional District for 30 years, he shaped our community, the Congress, and the lives of so many who shared his passion for public service. From his congressional internship program to the creation of the Archer Center in Washington, D.C., upon his retirement, Congressman Archer inspired and nurtured generations through his service, integrity, and example. My thoughts are with the Archer family and all those whose lives he touched through his dedicated, life-long service to community and country. houstonchronicle.com/news/houston-t…
