@TheSalonDon Diamonds were never a good investment. They’re a consumption purchase with emotional value. If natural feels more meaningful to her, that’s the whole point of the purchase. Nobody buys an engagement ring expecting to flip it.

@paulswaney3 @SwaneyGroupCap Can you offer some guidance to newcomers in the industrial manufacturing industry? I’m planning to purchase one by the end of this year, but I’m completely clueless about where to begin.

My wife go her new Tesla Model Y after a little accident in the previous one (the big truck had more damage than the Y lol). Picked the 7 seater as soon as it was available and transferred FSD. Best deal out there, especially for families! The smaller kids fit great in 3rd row! Thank you @elonmusk and @Tesla we love the sparkling black paint and the smooth full self driving. The sound system seems louder than ANY other Tesla by the way even the Cybertruck haha. I never get over the entire roof being glass that you can enjoy the sky and scenery and the sky. Beautiful! And the screen in the back with Bluetooth for the kids headphones to watch and listen to their own entertainment is a lifesaver!

@girdley I’ve been planning to implement the holdco strategy ever since I learned about it. The only issue is that I see myself as a better operator than allocator. What do you think? Can someone learn to allocate capital efficiently?

One book changed how I think about every business decision I make. It really doesn't cover business or strategy; if you had to categorize it, maybe it's psychology. But it explains why the best operators beat the MBA types. It explains why the guy you knew growing up, who ran a boring business, and who had clearly never run a spreadsheet, was the richest man in town.

AI is going to change PE workflows. A PE associate on Reddit shared how he used Perplexity Computer to build a web app that turns customer cube analysis into automated dashboards. Analysis that used to take a KKR or Blackstone associate several hours can now be done in minutes. This is going to change how PE firms do diligence. Crazy how this industry will evolve.

This is the Tesla FSD. Watch it navigate. It’s pretty badass. Look, it weaves through traffic like nothing. “Whoa! Watch out!” says that pedestrian. Ew, it’s handling a rainy road! Oh, it’s overtaking a Prius like it’s standing still! Oh my gosh! Tesla’s Full Self-Driving has been called the most relentless autonomy in the game. It really doesn’t give a shit. If there’s a destination, it’s going there. Ew, what’s that? A pothole the size of a crater? FSD don’t care. FSD don’t give a shit. It just takes the route it wants. Whenever it’s engaged it just BOOM and it handles unprotected lefts, jaywalkers, double-parked Ubers. Oh my gosh, watch it merge on the highway at 80. The Tesla Mad Max is really pretty badass. It has no regard for any nervous NHTSA report whatsoever. Look, and it’s just cruising past left lane hogs, ignoring lane markings that don’t make sense, ew, predicting erratic human drivers. Ew, that’s so nasty. But look, FSD doesn’t care. It’s getting phantom-braked once in a blue moon? Doesn’t give a shit. It’s hungry for miles. Nothing stops the Tesla FSD when it’s on a mission.

Tesla’s FSD in rain and traffic? It just reads the road, predicts what everyone’s doing, and drives smooth and safe, while humans are busy hitting the brakes.

Tesla’s crash test footage reveals why it’s the safest car on Earth 🛡️ The vehicle’s chassis is engineered to absorb impacts before they reach the passenger cabin. This design enhances occupant protection while also helping to reduce the impact forces transmitted to the other vehicle in a collision. In the event of a crash, the system detects the angle and conditions of the impact within 10 milliseconds and instantly activates the appropriate airbags and seatbelt pretensioners. It also features “Reactive Airbags” that adapt their deployment based on the type of collision and the occupants involved. These airbags intelligently adjust the internal cushion pressure by releasing the optimal amount of gas according to the anticipated severity of the impact. Additionally, a far-side airbag positioned between the front seats helps protect occupants from being thrown toward the opposite side during a side-impact collision. Buy Tesla if safety is your top most requirement for a new car 👍

People dramatically underestimate how much you can turbocharge your career by just intentionally spending time with other people. Smart people—those who advance through the early stages of their career primarily via IQ—are particularly oblivious. Years ago, I worked in M&A with a guy who drew a 3x5 grid on his whiteboard every Friday afternoon. Monday through Friday, breakfast, lunch, and dinner for the next week. Every box would have the name of a banker or PE friend he was catching up with. If he had a blank space, he’d start flipping through his phone until he found someone he hadn’t met with in a while. 15 casual meetings every week. 60 a month. No agenda, no pitches, just catching up, shooting the breeze about golf and family, maybe a few minutes of talking shop. The deal flow it unlocked for this guy’s company—not to mention the career opportunities it brought him—was insane. And it was all things that wouldn’t have been available otherwise, had the guy not taken the time to reach out to 15 people, week after week, month after month. I asked him one time how he had the energy to manage that many get-together, on top of his job responsibilities. He gave me a weird look. “I don’t do all these meals in spite of my job. I do my job FOR these meals. The job just gives me an excuse to reach out to old friends, make some new ones, and charge it all to the shareholders.” If you’re looking to level up in your career, I can’t recommend this enough. Pick up the phone, call people, and start getting lunch and coffee meetings on the calendar. You’ll change your career—maybe even change your life.
Boring_Business@BoringBiz_

There is incredible alpha in just grabbing coffee or lunch with people on a consistent basis This could be with an ex coworker, current boss or manager, professional mentor, or even just an old friend People open up more and they become much more willing to knock on doors for you after an in person interaction This is also just as true when you are meeting someone for the first time. Whenever possible, you should always try and meet face to face, instead of over Zoom In the worst case, you end up spending 30 minutes eating lunch over a conversation that doesn’t go anywhere In the best case, it could open up life changing opportunities that would have otherwise never landed on your lap The risk reward is to tilted towards the upside
