Tucker Carlson and Iza Bendianishvili (“Elizabeth Lane”) make a series of bizarre attacks on Ryan Mauro. Bendianishvili says Mauro is a NATO operative running an information war against Russia. In fact, Mauro is a counter-jihad analyst who made his name on Islamist extremism at the Clarion Project. She can’t make him fit the allegation and admits it mid-accusation: “Ryan is a separate actor against Russia.” Carlson helps her out: “He’s a foreign policy guy.” Bendianishvili says Mauro is paid by an untraceable nonprofit doing “8 million a year or something,” which she says is “tied to Atlantic Council” and “tied to NATO.” It’s the Capital Research Center, a conservative outfit whose business is investigating left-wing nonprofits, Soros-funded ones very much included, and it files a public tax return. In other words Bendianishvili is accusing a professional Soros investigator of working for Soros, and called his published finances a mystery. Her evidence: “Gd knows how he gets paid.” Bendianishvili says Mauro sicced a Ukrainian mercenary accused of war crimes on her, ghost-wrote a hit piece, and fed it to The Insider. “I have all the proof.” She shows none of it. Carlson asks for none of it. He just supplies the menace: “Does he live in, like, Arlington or something?” What Mauro actually did was send her questions for an article. One was about the Russian special forces officer she hosted on her show. The Insider identified her partner as an FSB officer who served with Wagner and Kadyrov’s Akhmat Battalion. Ryan Mauro asked about the Russian. That’s the whole “hit piece.”
