Chińska cenzura pomija przy tym faktyczny kontekst bezpieczeństwa, w tym agresywne działania Chin wokół Tajwanu, presję na Morzu Południowochińskim i Wschodniochińskim oraz rosnącą militaryzację regionu. Zamiast tego buduje prosty i fałszywy obraz: Chiny występują jako obrońca pokoju i „sprawiedliwości historycznej”, natomiast Japonia jako państwo "agresywne, aroganckie i niezdolne do rozliczenia się z przeszłością".
