In Rhode Island, a person voting by mail ballot does not need to present a photo ID. Rhode Island requires photo ID for in-person voting at the polls (or early voting), as outlined in Rhode Island General Laws § 17-19-24.2. This applies to Election Day and in-person early voting, where voters must show an acceptable form of photo identification (such as a RI driver's license, U.S. passport, military ID, etc.). However, this requirement explicitly does not apply to voting by mail ballot (also called absentee ballot). Official sources from the Rhode Island Board of Elections and Department of State confirm: "Identification is not required to vote by mail ballot." (Directly from elections.ri.gov voter ID page.) "Mail ballots will not require Voter ID." (From the official voter ID information flyer on vote.sos.ri.gov.) To make it worse, RI allows registration by mail and electronically. The Board of Canvassers clerks never have to see a real person.

83% of Americans support requiring photo ID to vote. That includes 71% of Democrats. 83% of independents. 76% of Black voters. The only people who don’t? Democrats in Congress. Seth Magaziner voted against the SAVE Act — a bill that does nothing more than require proof of citizenship to register to vote. Rhode Islanders deserve an answer, Seth. Why do 83% of Americans — including most of your own voters — get it, but you don’t? This isn’t a partisan issue. It’s common sense. Show your ID. Protect the vote. Simple.

I explained that this year, RI Lawmakers will consider 2 proposals to reform our tax system: 1) More taxes 2) Cut taxes I am firmly for cutting taxes. My proposal is a modest cut to the income tax rate by 2% each year for 5 years. We shouldn’t be raising taxes—we should be lowering them to help families and make Rhode Island more competitive. My tax cut would help every working Rhode Islander.

Today, I journeyed to an obscure part of the Capitol basement to see the long-awaited plaque honoring the police officers who defended Congress and America against Trump’s insurrectionary mob on January 6, 2021. To his credit, Sen. Tillis joined Democrats in demanding it be put up, but this spot is not accessible to the public. Speaker Johnson, come on—put the plaque in its rightful place of honor.

The government that has lied about almost everything wants us to believe our elections are secure. No thanks. We just want the SAVE America Act passed instead of taking your word for it.
