Too often, men have treated abortion as though it is a “solution” that frees them from responsibility, while women alone face the surgery, medications, health risks, grief, and lifelong consequences that may follow. No woman begins life hoping to face the fear and desperation of an unexpected pregnancy. As men, fathers, families, and communities, we must do far more to ensure every expectant mother has genuine support and a real opportunity to choose life for her child. As Attorney General, my priority will not be prosecuting women in crisis. My focus will be on holding accountable those who exploit vulnerable women and children, violate professional duties, conceal crimes, or unlawfully profit from the destruction of human life. The Attorney General has powerful tools to protect women, children, and the public from abuse, coercion, and criminal misconduct. As Attorney General: • I will not prosecute women seeking abortions. I will pursue appropriate criminal enforcement against professionals and institutions that violate the law, including potential charges involving racketeering, extortion, failure to report crimes against minors, poisoning, reckless homicide, and homicide where the facts and law support those charges. Enforcement priorities will include: Medical professionals who perform abortions on very young minors while ignoring evidence that the pregnancy itself may indicate abuse, exploitation, or another crime that must be reported and investigated. Social workers or other professionals who encourage minors to conceal the identity of an adult responsible for a pregnancy when mandatory reporting duties apply. Institutions that train or direct professionals to ignore abuse, exploitation, or crimes against children in order to facilitate abortions. Any professional who unlawfully ends the life of an unborn child outside the protections established by law, including late-term cases where no genuine life-saving medical emergency exists. Any person who secretly administers abortion drugs to a pregnant woman without her knowledge or consent. Any provider who distributes abortion drugs without proper medical safeguards, informed consent, and legally required evaluation of the patient’s condition. Rhode Island’s 2019 abortion legislation repealed prior abortion statutes and changed the legal landscape. As Attorney General, I will carefully examine the interaction between those changes and existing homicide, child protection, medical, and criminal statutes to ensure that every human life receives the fullest protection available under the law. The Attorney General’s duty is not to defend political agendas.
