The assertion is false. The US fought a civil war to reunite the country. That had to be achieved through violence, as most civil wars are. Only later during that war did the US's goals morph to include abolishing slavery (in the states that seceeded). As most people know, that was done first to undermine external support for the CSA (from European powers).

@C_3C_3 Interesting self-own: "The US is the only country that fought a civil war to end slavery." That suggests that all the other countries abolished slavery out of moral consensus, with only the US being so strongly opposed that it could only be achieved through violence.

Want some truth? There are ~195 sovereign countries in the World and all 195 have had slavery. But… Out of those 195 countries the United States is the only one that fought a full scale Civil War to end it.

Turning knife fights were pretty rare by 1945. As they say, speed is life and 262s had that as a significant advantage over their opponents. That said, facing overwhelming numbers of enemies that learned to jump them while landing or taking off (i.e. low and slow) is what did them in.
