@zerohedge When has that ever worked? How about competition? Less regulation? Less taxes? Cheaper loans so companies can compete?
English

@PaulyTremonte @lmchankins @jonbrooks Well that's a fair point. I still don't like how you phrase it. If you are talking breadth of knowledge required then fine. Sure 3 coats of mud and sanding is simpler than wiring up a data-center. My point is that the still have skill that is hard to teach a robot.
English

@RickBacci_175 @lmchankins @jonbrooks Lmao.
Never once did I call drywallers low IQ, that is what your insisting so you must believe it to be true.
Drywalling is a low IQ trade, end of story.
English

Everyone keeps saying “go into the trades.”
I get it — but here’s my real experience:
Called a local company to fix an icemaker on a 2007 fridge that still runs great.
Tech shows up. Takes a picture. Can’t fix it.
Charges $99 just for showing up.
Then quotes me $1,300 to replace the icemaker.
So I do what everyone can do now:
I ChatGPT the model number.
In 2 seconds:
• Exact replacement part
• Direct phone number
• Cost: $300 Installation?
2 screws. 10 minutes.
I’ll do it myself.
Same thing happened with my pool heater: Repair guy quoted $2,000. I bought the part directly and fixed it myself for under $200.
The problem isn’t the trades.
It’s that information asymmetry is gone — and some businesses haven’t realized it yet.
English

@PaulyTremonte @lmchankins @jonbrooks Because AI is smarter than you. You also could use a slice of humble pie.
English

@PaulyTremonte @lmchankins @jonbrooks Well then maybe you can learn to finish drywall. Enjoy your day. You completely ignore my point.
English

@RickBacci_175 @lmchankins @jonbrooks Drywalling is a low IQ trade, there's literally no arguing over that. Straight up fact.
English

@PaulyTremonte @lmchankins @jonbrooks You said it was low intelligence. That's a blanket statement for an entire group of people. Just before you said AI and robots won't be replacing tradesmen. Drywallers are a trade. What do doctors do? Match symptoms to drugs? That's easily replaceable.
English

After trying more than a dozen hearing aids, from budget options to cheaper medical ones, my father-in-law had pretty much given up on hearing clearly. The high-end models were over $1,000 and he didn't think they would be worth it anyway.
I just got him a pair of @Apple AirPods Pro 2. Once everything was set up, his whole face lit up. He could finally hear clearly again. I only wish we had gotten him a pair earlier.
English

@KenChessRapper @lmchankins @PaulyTremonte @jonbrooks Humans with experience can handle the edge cases, and multitude of problems that need to be solved. I have no idea what robots will be able to do. I just don't see them replacing the trades any time soon. Assisting sure. New tech is cool. Replacing no.
English

@RickBacci_175 @lmchankins @PaulyTremonte @jonbrooks Do you have an example of a specific task that you are sure a robot cannot do or learn in any trade? What is out of their reach that we will always need a human to do?
English

@PaulyTremonte @lmchankins @jonbrooks I hate when people talk down about others. AI and robots will replace doctors long before they will replace drywallers. Good drywallers have skill. I was a plasterer. My point was about about how long a product needs to cure.
English

@RickBacci_175 @lmchankins @jonbrooks Being a drywaller is a low intelligence job, robots will take that over long before any of the educated trades jobs.
English

@lmchankins @PaulyTremonte @jonbrooks This is kinda funny. You know jack shit. Taping mud doesn't even dry that fast. Sure you can use quick set, but good luck doing it on a large scale. I call bullshit. Robots might carry stuff, but they won't replace humans any time soon.
English

How so? I just gave you an example. Can you hang, tape, mud and sand 6k sq ft of drywall in an 8 hour period?
FYI, tradesmen made themselves replacable years ago and if you think AI killing white collar is going to boost blue collar, think again.
On one end, you have an aging workforce, which means less skilled tradesmen overall. White collar being eliminated means no jobs for the maintenance/handyman guys because your customer base can't pay you anymore, which means even less tradesmen. Robots producing at multiple increments faster, more efficient and safer than the best tradesmen is able to means value drops, precipitously.
It may not be 100% elimination across the board, but we're looking at a roughly 95-99% drop as AI and robotics are able to handle the bulk of workload.
This is not an endorsement of AI and robots in the trades. This is simply stating the economic truth behind these technologies. If you want a historical tale about this concept playing out, go read about John Henry.

@itzmarkus216 @DavonMille22997 It's a team game dude. NFL isn't Madden. Any team that makes the super bowl is a good TEAM. Does any qb have a better situation with this years offense compared to last years? Shedeur deserves a shot. Texan's Watson wouldn't be bad either. Injuries scare me off the latter.
English

@DavonMille22997 Bud, you don’t wanna have this convo with me. I got blasted by Watson warriors when I called out Watson for not playing elite. And his fans said he needed that also. If you elite you can’t expect to have everything. We seen franchise QBs not have all that and make SB
English

@HeidiBriones I eat mostly ground meat. If it's low in fat, i cook it in butter, lard, or beef tallow. Ribeye is the perfect ratio, but out of my price range atm. Chicken breast is always too dry for me. Maybe sous vide like someone said. Costco canned chicken is good for some things.
English

@MarkCor28 @matty152 @thedawgspodcast Stats are for losers. How many QB's don't look so hot in their rookie year that turn out alright? How many with a train-wreck of an o-line? Shedeur definitely needed to sit and learn a bit. I think he will do fine this year. I don't see them starting Watson. Could be wrong.
English

@RickBacci_175 @matty152 @thedawgspodcast Showed promise? 🤣 31/32 QBR rating is promise. No, its plain bad. Monken doesnt have time for promise to maybe pan out. He has to win now, not in 2-3 years.
English

If Deshaun Watson is named the starter, Tony Grossi suggested that Dillon Gabriel would be the better guy for QB2 than Shedeur Sanders.
"Gabriel’s a guy who’ll just keep quiet, he’ll study, he’ll stay up on the game plan. He’ll support the starter in any way he can. He’ll run the scout team, and if needed, he’ll play. That’s what you want out of a backup quarterback."
Grossi said that Shedeur’s shadow is too large to be a backup QB.
Has there ever been a situation where two guys completed for the starting spot…and the one who lost got demoted below the third guy who wasn’t even part of the equation?

English

@1MrPapi @_andrewthecoder Ah...age discrimination is bad. Thought we were supposed to be better than that. What cracks me up is all the young people doing it will likely one day experience the same. Experience should be valued. If you're valued you should be paid a fair wage.
English

A couple tips:
Remove anything that dates you more than say 15 years. College degree? Put completed but not the year. You get the idea.
Lower salary expectations. Okay you lowered them? Now lower them more. I was told by a guy at the VA that in my field I had to target salaries 50% below what I was making to even get my foot in the door.
Job fairs. Thats your best shot to engage human to human, not ATS.
Certs. Make sure you are up to date. And grab some bs AI certs too, just to show you know them. If you can't at least do basic automation with say GPT or use Claude's more advanced features, you probably won't get interviews. It needs to be visible in the resume.
English

I have a hard time believing that I am just unhireable. But I have an even harder time believing that my 25 years of experience is somehow negated by the format of my resume.
But, after over 2,000 applications, I am not sure what else to think. And, out of the dozens of emails (perhaps over 100) to hiring managers with inquiries about what might be happening, I have received ZERO response.
I have done some reverse engineering of some popular ATS systems and found some interesting trends; things like translating words like "founder" and "freelancer" to "unemployed", as one example (though, admittedly, the end user of the ATS is responsible for such translations). So, now add to everything else, I am being punished for running successful businesses for over a decade.
Kind of at the end of my rope here. I have to start thinking about what retirement looks like, and I am just plain NOT HIREABLE. Career change at this point doesn't seem likely. I have literally never done anything professionally other than write software (at least, not since college anyway). This is actually going to start affecting my way of life, my standard of living, not to mention the people that count on me to provide.
Please don't take this as anything more than venting. I am not blaming anyone, and I am not looking for sympathy. I know a lot of you are experiencing a very similar situation!

@SoloSatoshi Only can beat your head against a wall for so long. If they asked in earnest, I would say don't buy any unless you understand it. Everyone has Google and AI, they need to learn for themselves.
English

@MilenaAmit @zerohedge I can eat a pound of ground meat with cheese and 4 eggs for the same price. That will curb my hunger for most of the day.
English

@zerohedge Chili's "3 For Me" deal offers a drink, appetizer (chips & salsa or soup/salad), and an entree starting at $10.99. That is an entire meal for the price of a fast food burger right now. Why is anyone surprised at this shift?

@thedawgspodcast She should probably just put in her retirement papers. Who will go stupidest overall? Mary Kay? Or Tony? Tough call.
English

"I actually would put in a bid for him in the supplemental draft if he enters. I would probably put in a 2nd-round bid... Andrew Berry is a GM of second chances."
Mary Kay Cabot spoke with 92.3 The Fan about Texas Tech QB Brendan Sorsby.
The Browns are reportedly looking into Sorsby, whose college eligibility could be lost due to gambling allegations. If that happens, Sorsby could enter the NFL’s supplemental draft.
