I'm so happy that today I was able to vote for *the* Party of Peace, @GreenPartyUS and their candidates for President and Vice President @DrJillStein and @ButchWare. Thanks to everyone at @TXGreens for doing the hard work to get our candidates on the ballot!

No theyre not. The only section being put underground is the part by the convention center. The pierce elevated is being removed but thats it. It is NOT transformative. This is bad for Houston.
Michael W.@Michaelskywal

Dang its like you are willfully ignoring what TxDOT is trying to do, they are trying to put the entire highway underground to turn it into a park so that residents of eado can easily walk and bike into downtown, driving the ability to build denser apartments and housing. Its literally right here: txdot.gov/nhhip/about/se…

@Michaelskywal @the_transit_guy Not only that, but 45 is going to be re-routed so the freeway will no longer encircle all of downtown Houston. It’s literally Houston’s version of the Big Dig and promotes more urban development. (Full disclosure, I still think TXDOT builds way too much freeway,)

In downtown Houston, an empty lot next to a light rail station becomes 375 housing units... April Fools! TxDOT actually knocked these apartments down to widen a highway. The top image is the after.

@RAILMag @METROHouston No, you were right, im just being grumbly. Metro has decided a good use of taxpayer funds is to remove the existing wraps off. (Not my photo)

@RideTheSunbeam @METROHouston think I misphrased what I meant, which is not covering the windows is good. If a vehicle is already wrapped, let it run its course but just a bit of creativity in design can have an effective wrap without covering the windows.

@HOUrbanist Why would we want this? We have self driving cars now, and self driving taxis that will be dirt cheap on the horizon. We don’t need dinosaur trains!

@HOUrbanist Wasn’t METRO planning on building an emergency response building there?

I am once again just sort of dismally flabbergasted at how much money the city spends on airports. This happens to me … checks notes … every week.

@ElijahG_68 We should have at minimum a four line regional rail network with complimentary park and ride buses on the non-rail corridors.

@RideTheSunbeam I think it if were serious on building a regional rail network. We need an agency like Metra, Sunrail or Metrolink to connect the surrounding counties

I wish our Park and Ride Network made sense. Its so dang disjointed Metro alone, before you add in Fort Bend Transit, Conroe Connection and The Woodlands Express. We need a regional transit agency.

@carexsedge1 @RideTheSunbeam Amtrak currently serves Houston to Chicago in about 24 hours (via a bus connection) I’ve used it numerous times HOU-STL and it works very well. Way cheaper than flying, and it’s overnight so the amount of “lost time” is pretty minimal

@RideTheSunbeam Yeah but they take only 3h versus Amtrak’s 48h for the trip. Trains make sense for 50-250 miles - over that planes win.

@splizzee No way to get to Houston tho. You'd have to take the CONO to NOL then the Sunset to HOS. Or you could take The Texas Eagle to SAS and transfer there to the Sunset for HOS. But there's no direct connection.

If the states of Texas and Louisiana were serious it wouldnt take almost 10 hours from Houston to New Orleans on Amtrak.
