Peak matriarchy vibes over here. Watching her doe give birth while tending to our children. Officially half done with kidding.

@RingFamilyAg @peejdall likely the x browser is co-opting the url or the redirect url and one of those isn't what google is expecting (as its not floracarta dot com), so I'll have to see if there's anything I can do about that

Same. I am not gardening to get the same things I can get at the store, I'm making things that the store cannot give me. Beautiful surroundings foremost, then on-demand herbs, and rare cultivars and bountiful fruits for the babes
Kristin Carrigg@KristinCarrigg

My motivations for gardening and doing farm-y things have changed over the years. I used to want to do those things for self-sufficiency reasons. Now, I want them for luxury. It feels like such a luxury to have an abundance of fruit, veg, eggs, etc. There's so little variety at

@RingFamilyAg @peejdall huh that's weird. A dozen people signed up today using Google auth so I'm not sure what might have gone wrong, but if it happens again can you take a screenshot?

@simonsarris @peejdall The Google login didn’t want to work through the x browser on mobile. It said it didn’t comply with Google policy for being secure. Will try desktop later. I’m planning out where to plant a 1/3 acre orchard. This looks like a great tool.

@pmarca I can say this pretty confidently. I may be the most introspective person you've ever met and I've mastered control over many emotions. Introspection is how we truly domesticate our animal.

bullish on cows - started as a side project while working at rocket lab - solar powered gps collars for cattle, around 600k have been deployed - use sound and vibration cues to guide cows (e.g., can schedule cows to show up at the dairy shed at 4:30am) - proprietary algorithm is called the "cowgorithm"

@fortworthchris Where is this deal going? We could have more Argentinian imports. Screw worm concerns at the border. Domestic herd rebuild is going slowly. Old kill plants are shutting their doors. What are they betting on?

Six years ago, I did an episode called Cattle Industry 101 that was very popular. On Monday, I'm sitting down with Jordan Levi - the largest cattle feeder in America. We're going to dig even further into the cattle industry and what's going on today. What would you like to know?

@simonsarris I farm and have a diesel repair shop. I have no concept of how many possessions I own. I’ve given up caring how many, and just try to make sure they have a purpose.

@simonsarris There are people who have told me that they never came in contact with hand tools until they were adults. There weren’t even a couple screwdrivers or a hammer in their home.

My 2yo figured out how to use a screwdriver when I didn't want him to! And there are people that never used one because its "manual labor"? No chances ever to use one? Confusing.

This just sounds so impossible but I've heard 2 anecdotes from teachers that suggest the same thing. Kids who never ever picked up a drill or a screwdriver before graduating high school.
Andrew A.Abbott@realAAAbbott

First thing we skills test for is "can you run a cordless drill". 98% of guys under 35 in fact cannot. They can't run a cordless drill properly, safely. You aren't going to learn to be a plumber or electrician in 2 years because you don't even know enough to change a tire.

@BraytonKey Pink eye gets much less intimidating when you’ve dealt with it in cattle your whole life. Agree with the humility. Currently 13 hours into a 9 hour car ride with kids. My gps etas are in ruins. At least they are sleeping now.

I’m doing what you’re doing: outside income to make it work. It’s not about what’s good right now, it’s about still having a model that works five years from now, and I refuse to encourage young people to get into this industry by giving them a false sense of reality. The same thing happened with small butcher shop builds in 2020-21 and now those are a blood bath since we are on the other side of the cycle.

@RingFamilyAg @bowtiedfarmer Not all things are good for forever so you better get good at doing many things. Currently, it is a gold mine and quite frankly, if you can't make it work in today's market then I would suggest ranching isn't for you. You just argue instead of asking how, that's the first sign.

Black Pill Cattle prices are higher than ever before. Quality all black steer calves are selling at around $2200 a head. Insanity. This is causing beef prices to soar. But think about it… Rancher takes 50 steers to the sale barn for a pay day of $110,000 Do you know how much time and money it takes to get 50 head of cattle to the sale barn? Farming cattle is actually still really not worth it tbh

@NorthernEx85170 @bowtiedfarmer That’s what “outside capital” means. What you’re saying doesn’t sound like a “gold mine” situation if you need at least 4 other things. Your argument doesn’t hold up both ways.

@RingFamilyAg @bowtiedfarmer I've been doing it for years. It's very possible. If you can't work two jobs to make it work maybe it's not for you? Most of us do atleast 4 different things to cover in tough times. There is TONS of land down there that will grow cows just fine.

For me, any ai agent setup/ office work/ managerial tasks are just the hurdle in the way of having that life. Being close to nature means exposure to unyielding, undeniable levels of truth. I want the resulting truth to be salient like a lighthouse burning through the foggy night of modernity.
