Cliff gave me my first (real) contract job back in 2001 at Epic Games. He would literally mail me a CD with the Unreal Warfare build/tools. I CD-ROM installed it and made levels for their latest (very early phase, never-released) game. He told me "Dude, we expect only the best, so please understand if we ever cancel the contract." (totally fair) But when I submitted my first level, he said "This is great! I'm glad we sent you the build!" 😅<-- My face I was so proud, I photo-scanned the check they sent me ($5k!!) but I ended up leaving the Epic contract for another full-time gamedev job (bad move, Epic gig was a dream job). Anyway, Cliff was a character back then (we all were), but I owe him a lot for believing in me. So yea, I don't know what he was thinking either 😁 Thank you CliffyB! ❤️🫡

@dustinhollywood Comicsgate set the precedent for a schism in communities along lines of made up offences that are also impossible to unprove and stick like radioactive mud. It was weaponised + optimised in the crypto space and fully formed as a set of philosophical neosocial underpinnings by AI.

No one should be if there intentions are honest about just wanting to create and try something new like he did, it’s when it’s abused it’s an issue. I.e. any mother fucker using celebs to try and get viral vids or stealing others work to post as an influencer with no tags to just get the likes and views so X pays them.. the grift is everywhere but there are a large number of people just wanting to create and there’s nothing wrong with that. People will use AI only, it’ll be a genre just like VFX/CGI but you don’t see millions of new directors coming from that lol, it just added new content, didn’t replace anyone, people still draw 2d animations even. The assumption everything will be AI is a massive fraud/fantasy, business sure cause all they care about is money, but the 99% are not businesses, they’re people, and they really like to be pissed off nowadays so these companies have a rude awakening coming that’s already started. Their desperation for power and data didn’t come out of nowhere it’s because they’ve been being cutoff. What I think will happen, is the slop influencers will grow, but so to will new platforms that don’t wanna deal with it and spawn communities that leave traditional social. 90% of grade school kids just wanna be internet famous and have no talent, experience, or have any understanding of the real world which is why our country is failing, I don’t see that getting better unfortunately, lol

I am one director using AI that still wants actors, I physically understand the differences, I also want to make real films not digital ones, and actors may be pre-madonnas some of them, and overpaid due to societal structures of bullshit. But, one thing I will say is that at least with AI I don’t need to worry about AI pulling punches, cause it’s fake 🤣🔥

@storyandplot Film is a hard three act thrust where you set your trajectory and see it out ideally through the three acts as a consistent arc, tv is a calculated attempt to reach then maintain orbit using different stabilising and counteracting forces in the narrative with option for re-entry.

In 29 years of writing features, I never once heard anyone use the terms "A Story" or "B Story" in a development meeting. Only in TV have I heard these terms. I think it was popularized by Blake Snyder. As a teacher, I can understand why he did it. But it can fool people. Outside of true ensembles, there really is no "B Story." There is only ONE story. Feature subplots support that story. They influence it. They affect it. They are necessary to push or pull the protagonist on their journey. If you do not understand why the subplot in your feature is essential for an emotionally satisfying ending, then there is a very good chance you should cut it.

@TheCinesthetic I believe it was due to the soundscape, this seemed to be one of his first experiments with long periods of silence/natural sound and in all the films where he’s done it I find it jarring, like watching a student film.

@Rengle820 Building a knife fight simulator that ideally will drive home the point to the average person that there are almost always two losers in every knife fight, but also for LE/knife-adjacent professions to train safe disarming methods too. Not sure what adoption curve looks like yet.

@EpsilonTheory Reminds me of my first year on Stargate, I got my script back from star Richard Dean Anderson who had marked it up. "Rick really liked my script,"I told showrunner Brad Wright. "It's full of check marks!" "No, check marks are bad,"Brad informed me.

@robinsonishyde As someone who has produced 7 features, I don’t possibly know how he’d only get paid $5K on a $1.5M budget unless that was his choice? Not that he’d be getting rich on that budget, but $5K is what you make on like, a $100K budget.

@1966FILMS @hotjamesonwheel @F1losopher Exactly. You can’t. Pressure was put on Massi unofficially but unanimously before the race, with the added “new DTS crowd want the spectacle” atmosphere of the time, biggest battle of recent seasons hinging on it, his fear of being seen as too restrictive became a pressure point.

@RobHackneyEsq @hotjamesonwheel @F1losopher No. The rules are pretty clear and they haven’t been modified on the aspect. The race should have ended under the safety car. As PER THE RULES simply because there weren’t enough laps left. Either all cars themselves or none. Can’t change the rules midway.

I'm very touched by all these Verstappen and Alonso fans fighting for "the good of the sport" regulations. Where were you during the aftermath of Abu Dhabi 2021? Bunch of hypocrites.

@stevendeknight That’s why every ensemble should include the president or a captain. Here’s a thought: Captain President. Ensemble drama starring @LukeBarnett because of course it does as Executive Vice Officer to Josh Brolin’s Captain President. Their antagonist is the CFO of the United Nations

Finished the 1st 10 pages of script for my new project, titled “The Comic Shop.” It’s a semi-autobiographical account of working at my neighborhood comic book store in the very early 1990’s. The tone is sort of a cross between early Richard Linklater & Charles Bukowski.
