Okay, lets play this out sir... - We raise the minimum wage Option A - I let staff go because the business can't afford them, they have no money and still can't afford a coffee. Option B - We raise the minimum wage, shop loses money, we raise prices, they still can't afford the coffee. I wish people like you would read a book rather than so confidently not understanding the problem.
Callum R@GoldRobin_11

@PeterMcCormack What do we do about people on minimum wage who can’t afford rent/basic goods? Maybe the reason people don’t go to your coffee shop is because they don’t have enough money? Do you think at all or just spout drivel?

In fact I just did it for you. Here is what it said: The flaw in the original argument is that it assumes labour markets are perfectly free and balanced—but they often aren’t. A worker needing to pay rent or feed a family doesn’t negotiate from the same position of power as a business owner, so “if they’re willing to accept it” doesn’t always mean the wage is fair. Minimum wage exists as a way of preventing exploitation, correcting imbalances in bargaining power, and ensuring full-time work provides at least a basic standard of living.

He accomplished two important things with this line of questioning: 1) He exposed abortion for what it really is, stripping away the euphemisms that hide its barbarity, and 2) he revealed that abortion's proponents are too embarrassed and uncomfortable to have the conversation without the euphemisms because it makes them look monstrous. In other words, they care more about how they're perceived than anything else, including the wellbeing of innocent, defenseless babies. So they are, in fact, monstrous — and terrible at hiding it. Very well done.

A minimum wage of £15 would end my coffee shop, it would have to close, as would many other businesses. I’ll explain for the economically illiterate. Staff costs are currently half our costs, a £15 minimum wage is actually more than £15 an hour for the company, because you have to add: - 12.07% holiday - Sick pay - Maternity pay if and when required - National insurance - Pension contributions These costs would mean the shop loses money because remember, energy costs are up, rates are up, regulations are up. Now you can pass these costs onto the consumer - that would mean charging a lot more for coffee, people won’t pay it. The likes of Starbucks and Costa can, because they have economies of scale. The independent doesn’t. Now the little socialist will say well this is your fault, if you can’t run a business that can afford to pay its staff properly, but the little socialist has never run a business and does not understand the dynamics. Now I could pay some staff off and fill those hours myself or reduce us to one staff member during certain periods - but this proves the point that a minimum wage costs jobs. There was a time when these jobs were done by kids, perhaps on the weekend, paid a lower wage, no holiday and no silly employment rights. Perhaps they were even paid cash. The dynamic worked and small businesses like this could operate. It was also a great first job. Sadly now it isn’t worth employing entitlement youngsters at this level of pay. So alas, I don’t need the stress, the business would close, a number of jobs would be lost. Economics is about understanding these dynamics, no vibes. The cost of living is not solved through passing on inflation to the business, it is solved by ending high inflation and creating prosperity. This is what socialists don’t understand, they can’t create prosperity, they can only destroy it.

As a Cape Town property owner, I strongly opposed the City’s 2025 tariffs: the city-wide cleaning levy, fixed water tariff, and fixed sanitation tariff. These weren’t based on actual consumption – they were charged according to property value. Purely unfair. Today, the Western Cape High Court struck them down as unlawful and invalid, ordering the City to remove them by 30 June 2026. The ruling confirms that municipal services must be charged in proportion to actual use, not property valuations. Municipalities don’t have unlimited power to invent new fixed levies. I’m relieved the court agreed with SAPOA, CTCRA and AfriForum. But I’m also angry. This was a DA-led city government pushing these charges. They defended them in court despite the clear legal problems. This has cost them my vote. After years of supporting the DA, I will not vote for them again. Property owners deserve fair billing, not valuation-based stealth taxes. The principle is now clear: pay for what you use. Nothing more. The City must comply and scrap these unlawful tariffs. Of course, it is the ratepayer who must now be burdened with paying the legal fees, as the city was hit with a cost order. Voetsek, @Our_DA Voetsek, @geordinhl

I’ve been living on Bitcoin, and I’ve seen the impact it has had on my life. I’ve been helping my people use a form of money that cannot be controlled by government. And now they are planning to control it. Why? Why must Black people continue to suffer under corrupt government.

The South African government has treated the crypto community like criminals for the last 10 years. Some of the best builders in crypto were South Africans who had to migrate elsewhere just to get support. Those who could not afford to leave were destroyed. Too many citizens have had their bank accounts closed or frozen simply for participating in “crypto activities.” Bitcoin has been the poor man’s lifeboat in South Africa. A peaceful protest against irresponsible governments. So many people escaped poverty because of Bitcoin. Now, their own government wants to destroy them too. Satoshi was right.

He was one of those guys who believed the government when they said there was a novel deadly virus that was going to kill us all if we didn’t wear cloth masks, ban alcohol, stand 2m apart, close schools, line up for fraudulently approved injections and allow the scumbags who steal from us year after year to assume powers that democratic institutions were designed to prevent them from ever having. And despite the fact that the jury is now in, and every man and his donkey can now see the covid phenomenon as a complete scam, under the guise of which some $6t was stolen from the poor and middle classes by oligarchs, he must stick to his guns because when he was wrong he was wrong in public.

As Africans, we get easily divided over simple facts because we want to cling to the idea that our problems are too complicated. The truth is that we are pinned to a narrative sold by politicians who need to be Saviors just to win the next election. They keep us stuck on race-baiting talking points that should have died decades ago. Imagine still saying a white person cannot be African in the same era where we have seen a Black man in the Oval Office and a man of Indian descent leading the UK. That argument is not revolutionary, It's intellectual bankruptcy. We are feeding off a political toxicity and savagery that we should be embarrassed to repeat. While the rest of the world is debating who owns the water on the Moon, we are debating who owns a farm based on their grandfather's skin colour. In 2026, being divided over skin colour is straight-up barbaric and embarrassing. It is a distraction for people who cannot build systems. True maturity is realizing that the flag is wide enough for every race, but the future is too narrow for incompetence.
Farai Mazhindu@FaraiMazhindu

The story of white African farmers has remained a consistent reality over the years. They produce millions of tonnes of grain, massive quantities of meat and fruit, and large volumes of milk. However, botched land reforms, often racially charged and framed as justice, have resulted in farm seizures that leave behind dysfunctional land. These farms often lack the ability to replicate the results achieved by professional farmers. Ultimately, Africa bears the loss through decreased farm employment, food shortages, and a lack of economic support from what was once a highly productive sector. It is baffling and truly astounding how some people insist on doubling down on a strategy that has repeatedly failed, yielding nothing but economic ruin and proving to be completely counterproductive.
